Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Sep 01, 2010 11:22 am Hi,my sister is in the process of getting her kitchen renovated and is having last minute problems deciding which under bench oven to get-as she really wants a 700mm wide oven-she planned on getting the Smeg (not sure of model number) but was told by one of the retailers when cooking cakes moisture tends to leak out of the bottom of the Smegs-so now shes looking at Ilve's but their more expensive-if anyone has a Smeg oven could u please give me any advice or tell me if u have had any problems while baking with them-she has to give her answer soon as their in the process of making her cupboards,is it worth paying the extra for Ilve?thanks! Re: 700mm smeg ovens 2Sep 01, 2010 2:02 pm Your sister can go to the Smeg and Ilve showrooms for cooking demostrations to see how well they cook and ask them questions about moisture, etc. And depending on which models of Smeg oven your sister is looking at, there isn't a huge difference in price between the Smeg and Ilve (after discount of course). Actually the top of the range Smeg 70cm oven costs more than the Ilve (Ilve only makes one 70cm oven). Re: 700mm smeg ovens 3Sep 01, 2010 4:15 pm I've had smeg before - wont go back. Once I walked into a competitors show room and when I said I was buying a smeg, they told me they are over priced and under deliver. I thought bad eggs on their part. But now I agree. I hate to say it, but my next will probably be a good old westinghouse. Have had St George, Smeg, Westinghouse, ILVE, Chef etc. Will stick with the so called cheap version westinghouse for my next reno - and I bake every week. Didnt notice the heat escaping from the sides though. Good luck, I hope this helps! There are SMEG lovers out there though. Re: 700mm smeg ovens 4Sep 01, 2010 4:23 pm I hadnt actually thought of that-I dont know if theres anywhere here in Perth where u can see the ovens running-she was also looking at Beaumatic ovens but I dont know much about them-apparently Rick Hart opened a oven place in Osborne Park but when we went there for the opening it wasnt finished and workmen were still there-u couldnt see any ovens running then but maybe theyve finished it by now? |
