Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Jun 05, 2010 1:46 pm Hi, I have a double brick home (circ 1950's) and I am considering installing a dishwasher. I will need to expose the cold water pipe which is either behind the plaster or in the brick cavity (I think). I was just wondering if anyone has attempted this before and could provide some advice please. Thanks Mark Re: Dishwasher Installation Advice Please 3Jun 05, 2010 7:02 pm Thanks renomart. I probably should have made myself a bit clearer. I have a double brick home and the water pipes to the kitchen water run in the cavity between the bricks, so I need to install a dishwasher tap/fitting on the cold water pipe to supply water to the dishwasher. I have found the pipe in the cavity but it is in a hard to get at position. The pipe runs horizontal and about inline with the sink tap, which naturally is above the sink. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with kitchen plumbing in double brick homes. I am a cabinet maker so i have no problem with the cupboards and positioning of the dishwasher etc. Thanks Mark Re: Dishwasher Installation Advice Please 4Jun 05, 2010 9:05 pm If your home is circa 50's are the water pipes of the same vintage or have they been replaced since original construction? If still original the pipes are likely to be galvanised iron pipes and if that is the case there is a fair chance that water flow through the pipes will be less than desired. So if this is the case I would be looking at progressively replacing these pipes when you embark upon any reno or replacement projects or at such time as when a new appliance is introduced such as the dishwasher. So can you get under the house? If so I would be looking at some new pipe runs in either copper or plastic. The alternative is running the pipes in the ceiling and dropping tee offs down the cavity and knocking out a few bricks to gain access. And it may be that you need to replace the GI supply pipe right out to the water meter. Don't envy you on this one. Cheers I am installing a new Bosch SMU4HTS01A built under dushwasher.
