Just to update the Qasair thread, This is the best Range hood we have ever installed, slight dearer than others because of the Ducting and Qasair installer, but it removes all the steam. smoke and smells, that I will now cook meat inside if its to cold or wet outside. Re: External Motor Rangehoods? Marketing or Fact 15Jan 03, 2019 4:35 pm We just installed the Qasair NDCH100L2B Undermount 1000m Wide Rangehood with 2 x external vents. Much quieter and sucks a lot more of the smell out. Each motor seems to work one vent. We used to get meat smell upstairs when we cooked and almost non existant now. Via E & S also with their preferred installer. We built with a volume builder and the previous unit did basically nothing and when the installer removed the previous unit it was extracting to a fairly small hole which was mainly filled with insulation. Marketing or Fact 16Jan 04, 2019 9:39 am We have a Schweigen Dual Motor Silent rangehood in our Alfesco and a Blanco in our kitchen. The Schweigen is certainly much quieter when standing by the unit. There is however a reasonable amount of noise from the fan units on the roof and when also in the room directly underneath the fan units. Still not as noisy as the Blanco though even though we run the Schweigen on max speed and the Blanco on min speed I've heard the horror stories about neighbours complaining about roof mounted extraction fans but I cannot believe that a rangehood that's only going to be operating for an hour or two a day and not during the time when people are sleeping can cause such issues. The stories are more likely to be about people living in close proximity to commercial kitchens Re: External Motor Rangehoods? Marketing or Fact 17Jan 04, 2019 12:05 pm We have been using our Whispair for 1 year and 2 months now. Cleaning is a breeze. I just put the baffle filters in the dishwasher today. Good as new! I try to clean it once every 3 months. Marketing or Fact 18Sep 23, 2019 1:07 pm arcadelt I liked the idea of Schweigen too. I've seen and heard one in Sydney, and Qasair was just as quiet. Biggest issue is that it moves the sound outside your house, and there are many cases where neighbours complained. I have no idea how close your house is to your neighbours but you should consider that. In the worst cases, councils ordered the removal of the motors, which meant replacement of the rangehood. My neighbour installed a 1600 on the wall facing our garden with no ducting, and the noise level was unbelievable - much louder than any aircon unit and more akin to jet engine. You simply couldn't be outside when it was on. In my view the very concept of taking the noise and smell away from you kitchen and imposing it on your neighbours using an external motor is wrong. It's not your problem any more, but it is still a problem. Re: External Motor Rangehoods? Marketing or Fact 19Sep 23, 2019 1:21 pm +90% of kitchen rangehoods would be vented externally. The only ones that aren't are the cassette type. So, as for "imposing it on your neighbours" +90% of households in Australia would be doing it. Re: External Motor Rangehoods? Marketing or Fact 20Sep 23, 2019 2:09 pm Althom +90% of kitchen rangehoods would be vented externally. The only ones that aren't are the cassette type. So, as for "imposing it on your neighbours" +90% of households in Australia would be doing it. That's just a statistical make believe. The majority of Australian homes would still have ducting in the roof cavity, particularly older homes. External ducting is a relatively new trend in Australian homes (as opposed to apartments). External motors would be ok if they were quiet outside and if the filters were effective. This isn't the case in Australia. The pollution from kitchen particulate matter is taken very seriously in the US and Europe, but not so much in Australia. Our legislation has not yet caught up with the new external motor products being sold, or indeed the higher density living.
