Marketing or Fact 7Oct 04, 2017 11:47 am We got Whispair Rome 90 X5R09S5.EP KleenAir Remote Fan Solution - 1140 m3/hr for our rangehood which we will use with our 70cm induction cooktop. Apparently, there are backlog of orders, not sure if it is just for Rome 90 or for other models as well. I like that someone from Whispair rang to inform us the next day though we were told that there will be a delay when we went into Harvey Norman (you can only get it through HN here in South Australia at this stage), dunno, maybe calling it too early but I feel like they have a great customer service. The rangehood will be in Melbourne warehouse on the 19th and then will start making their way to other states. Either it is because it is really good or because Whispair has a sale going on at the moment. Lol! But I saw two other couples buying Whispair while we were at Harvey Norman in Gepps Cross last Sunday. Will give feedback once it is in. We also bought a ducting kit from them for $99 I think, ours will be through the roof (looks like a mushroom on the roof). As an additional information, Falmec resulted from the falling out with Whispair or something like that, not sure which came first between the two. We ended up going with a Qasair from E&S, and got it installed by Pete the Plumber. It was hard to find a plumber to do it, but Pete was outstanding. I'm really happy with the noise vs airflow rate. We ended up going with quite a short distance from rangehood to the vent on the wall due to locations; but area really quite happy. I think it was worth the extra money to get the external ducting etc. Means still can hear TV and have conversation while range hood is running on full power! Cheers, Scott Re: External Motor Rangehoods? Marketing or Fact 9Jul 06, 2018 8:42 am sxwallac Hi Guys, Thanks for all your feedback. Is this ballpark of the install cost as it more than our twin motor Qasair cost. Re: External Motor Rangehoods? Our installer was recommended by Qasair. Whereabouts are you located. Not sure if I'm allowed to post his name on the forum: he was brilliant. If you're in Victoria, let me know. He was a really honest guy, and the quality of his work is amongst the best on our whole house build (I look at the little things!). I'm not sure if he's retired now: I hope not. He restored my faith in trades! The unit installed, is awesome. We're fully in our house now, which is loads of glass and concrete: quite boomy; but the Qasair is quiet enough I can actually talk to the Mrs from the other side of the room, even while the rangehood is on full. Provided she hasn't got her head directly under it (!) it's really quite quiet. We have the model with the grills right up inside, which I think helps reduce noise as all the air turbulence is up tucked away. I'm always skeptical of sales pitches, particularly when they can't demo in the shops, it's really hard to tell if their figures are BS or not. I do have a calibrated sound level meter. I should run some tests, but regardless, we're happy. Sing out if you're in Vic, and I'll give you the Qasair plumber's details... Cheers.. Re: External Motor Rangehoods? Thanks I'm in Sydney and have called another installer from Qasair website. Re: External Motor Rangehoods? Marketing or Fact 12Jul 06, 2018 11:00 pm Hi, can you please advise which Qasair model you have? I was looking at the Schweigen and Sirius rangehood with external motor. I was leaning towards the Sirius as the build quality seems higher. Re: External Motor Rangehoods? Just to update the Qasair thread, This is the best Range hood we have ever installed, slight dearer than others because of the Ducting and Qasair installer, but it removes all the steam. smoke and smells, that I will now cook meat inside if its to cold or wet outside. Re: External Motor Rangehoods? Marketing or Fact 15Jan 03, 2019 4:35 pm We just installed the Qasair NDCH100L2B Undermount 1000m Wide Rangehood with 2 x external vents. Much quieter and sucks a lot more of the smell out. Each motor seems to work one vent. We used to get meat smell upstairs when we cooked and almost non existant now. Via E & S also with their preferred installer. We built with a volume builder and the previous unit did basically nothing and when the installer removed the previous unit it was extracting to a fairly small hole which was mainly filled with insulation. Marketing or Fact 16Jan 04, 2019 9:39 am We have a Schweigen Dual Motor Silent rangehood in our Alfesco and a Blanco in our kitchen. The Schweigen is certainly much quieter when standing by the unit. There is however a reasonable amount of noise from the fan units on the roof and when also in the room directly underneath the fan units. Still not as noisy as the Blanco though even though we run the Schweigen on max speed and the Blanco on min speed I've heard the horror stories about neighbours complaining about roof mounted extraction fans but I cannot believe that a rangehood that's only going to be operating for an hour or two a day and not during the time when people are sleeping can cause such issues. The stories are more likely to be about people living in close proximity to commercial kitchens Re: External Motor Rangehoods? Marketing or Fact 17Jan 04, 2019 12:05 pm We have been using our Whispair for 1 year and 2 months now. Cleaning is a breeze. I just put the baffle filters in the dishwasher today. Good as new! I try to clean it once every 3 months. Marketing or Fact 18Sep 23, 2019 1:07 pm arcadelt I liked the idea of Schweigen too. I've seen and heard one in Sydney, and Qasair was just as quiet. Biggest issue is that it moves the sound outside your house, and there are many cases where neighbours complained. I have no idea how close your house is to your neighbours but you should consider that. In the worst cases, councils ordered the removal of the motors, which meant replacement of the rangehood. My neighbour installed a 1600 on the wall facing our garden with no ducting, and the noise level was unbelievable - much louder than any aircon unit and more akin to jet engine. You simply couldn't be outside when it was on. In my view the very concept of taking the noise and smell away from you kitchen and imposing it on your neighbours using an external motor is wrong. It's not your problem any more, but it is still a problem. Re: External Motor Rangehoods? Marketing or Fact 19Sep 23, 2019 1:21 pm +90% of kitchen rangehoods would be vented externally. The only ones that aren't are the cassette type. So, as for "imposing it on your neighbours" +90% of households in Australia would be doing it. Re: External Motor Rangehoods? Marketing or Fact 20Sep 23, 2019 2:09 pm Althom +90% of kitchen rangehoods would be vented externally. The only ones that aren't are the cassette type. So, as for "imposing it on your neighbours" +90% of households in Australia would be doing it. That's just a statistical make believe. The majority of Australian homes would still have ducting in the roof cavity, particularly older homes. External ducting is a relatively new trend in Australian homes (as opposed to apartments). External motors would be ok if they were quiet outside and if the filters were effective. This isn't the case in Australia. The pollution from kitchen particulate matter is taken very seriously in the US and Europe, but not so much in Australia. Our legislation has not yet caught up with the new external motor products being sold, or indeed the higher density living.
