Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Sep 07, 2008 2:01 pm Hi everybody,
Colours have been selected for my childrens rooms. I like the feature wall idea but really wanted something different. I've noticed that a few houses are featuring coloured 2 pac wardrobe and panelling throughout the house. I really like this idea. We have 2 pac doors throughout so what colour I get them sprayed is up to me. What do you personally think about getting coloured wardrobe doors? They will be really glossy and give the kids bedrooms a lift...something different. The rest of the walls will be Antique White USA and that would allow me to choose any colour I want for their window furnishings. I am after all opinions and have pics of the colours I am having as well as some different styles of coloured wardrobes. What do you think? I often use the wardrobe doors as features when there is no available space on the walls in kids rooms for feature walls. Excellent idea. Question to consider, as I don’t have 2pack anywhere in my house, you might want to find out how easy they will be to do touch ups on if needed down the track. Also remember they will be a feature….so you need to watch other feature or feature walls you might add to the rooms……ie your bedroom and wallpaper? You could also consider doing spots, or using the decals of spots or stripes and that way its not perminant. or something like this as an older boys bedroom Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ You could do similar colours in each bedroom but vary the size of the stripes and include more white for the younger ones. Michelle is right though about touchups. We were told if we choose laminex colourtech gloss panels they provide you with a touch up pen in the colour you go with. If you are choosing to go with a flat colour. Hi michelle, Something to definately consider...the touch up pen, never thought about knocks and bumps. This idea is only for my boys rooms. Another question, you know that I have been considering using the kiwi fruit and eclipse blue colours together, would it be too much if the green was the wardrobe doors and the eclipse blue was a smaller feature wall of some sort or just have the wardrobes as the colour? And I like the colours you've chosen, they will definitely give wow factor to your boys' bedrooms.
I noticed your sig a few days ago about your flow colour issue - has this been sorted now, you going with Antique White USA? Nice colour (we are having it throughout ). Re: Colours and wardrobe ideas for boys 7Sep 07, 2008 4:20 pm Michelle Is this for J's room????? Yes. For the older boy, I would just have the eclipse blue wardrobe. He is heading towards becoming a young man and dosent want anything that is childish ( his words) Mrs B Re: Colours and wardrobe ideas for boys 8Sep 07, 2008 4:24 pm donuts Mrs B, those pictures are beautiful! Hi Donuts, We are now going for Antique White USA. Last week painted our previous flow colour onto the walls and it was so dark and not what I thought it would be like Now we have another "minor' hiccup to get over. It will work itself. I have seen the stripe look on TV before and looks so effective. The only problem is my kids dont want the stripes I have already asked them a few months ago.) They are very particular when it comes to colour and it literally took a few weeks to agree on the two top colours. The green had to be just the exact shade he liked Mrs B Re: Colours and wardrobe ideas for boys 10Sep 07, 2008 4:31 pm You have quite a long window in that room, nearly full wall size.
I guess you need to consider window dressing as it is a full wall of colour as well. Then if you use another colour on the back wall…it may be too much since he’s such a grown man….. What are you doing for window dressings? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Colours and wardrobe ideas for boys 11Sep 07, 2008 4:58 pm Michelle What are you doing for window dressings? I think your right, the window furnishings will go across almost the whole wall...thats my other feature colour I suppose. I am having roller blinds, nice and modern but still carefully considering my options. Mrs B Re: Colours and wardrobe ideas for boys 12Sep 07, 2008 5:17 pm If you choose a colour similar to USA then you could put the blue on the back wall that you see when you look in the door.
Later it can always be painted out if he grows out of it. I do love the coloured cupboards but I'm not so convinced they won't get sick of them in a couple of years . I do love the coloured cupboards but I'm not so convinced they won't get sick of them in a couple of years . I agree 100% as well. I suppose this is what I have got to decide I remember going into a display home that had 2 pac red doors on all kids bedrooms...it looked sensational IMHO and it was a feature but I wonder how many people took up that option when building that particular display home. I have got a few weeks to decide but I am tending towards going for it. Oh dear, yet another decision to contemplate. Anybody else have an opinion...do you think these colours will date very quickly? Mrs B Re: Colours and wardrobe ideas for boys 16Sep 08, 2008 8:38 am Oh its such a hard one!!
I'd go for white like Dy said as its eaiser to change paint colour than 2 pac doors. But then I'm boring and practical I think the rooms look sensational especially the brown one (see again boring colour ) If you do lthe doors in a colour, I'd get the window furnishings to match to tie it all in. This is going to be the best house!!! Cant wait to see it finished. Paula Re: Colours and wardrobe ideas for boys 17Sep 08, 2008 8:47 am I also love the look of the coloured wardobes, but like others wonder how easy they will be to change if the kids grow tired of them?
We just chose feature wall colours for the kids rooms this week and it was so stressful...I didn't want anything too kiddy - bright pink etc because I didn't want to have to paint over it in years to come and also thoyght it would be hard to match decor with. I ended up with a dusty pink for DD's room and a strong blue colour for DS. Good luck Mrs B - I too can't wait to see the outcome My karma ran over your dogma Re: Colours and wardrobe ideas for boys 18Sep 08, 2008 8:48 am I think it's great, I say go for it!!
I don't think they will tire of it for a good many years, actually I don't think that they will care so much when the novelty of the new house and decorating etc has worn off. C'mon, they're boys!! I really like the colours you have chosen, so are you thinking about having both the green and blue for DS1 or are you choosing between them? I would choose the darker blue. The only thing I did think of with DS2's blue was that it is a bit baby blue and maybe will feel a bit young for him as he gets older. Re: Colours and wardrobe ideas for boys 19Sep 08, 2008 8:57 am Mrs B is there anyway you think the boys will still love them in about 5-7 years?
This is a pretty long run for a colour and its long enough that most people start to consider changing colours etc anyway. It might not hurt so much if you the have to recolour the doors if it is that far away. If you keep the carcus of the wardrobe in white and just colour the doors, in 5 years you can replace them. A pricier option but it gives you the flexibility to have the confidence to go for it. The colours you have chosen are lovely I would go for it. Listen to me saying go for it .....
