Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Sep 02, 2008 4:10 pm Hi Guys,
This is how they had the study in the display home: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Now I'd like something similar. Darker wood, but that doesn't matter. Basically just some shelves etc, and where that desk comes out in the centre, I'd want 2 office desks back to back, for us to both have our computers on, sitting opposite each other. Anyone have any idea how much something like that would cost to get made/installed/whatever they do?? Re: Study Layout/Design Costs? 4Sep 02, 2008 4:36 pm From the look of the pic I'd say it was done by a cabinet maker rather than by a carpenter. Speak to the people that are doing your kitchen and laundry cabinetry as it's probably the same company that did this.
Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Study Layout/Design Costs? 5Sep 02, 2008 4:37 pm donuts no idea sorry, but what a nice study! Yeah, it is lovely. I just worry that even though we'll have two rather large desks, back to back, it will still look so bare in such a biggish area, with two desks plonked in the middle. I want the bookcases and stuff aswell Re: Study Layout/Design Costs? 8Sep 02, 2008 4:54 pm The cheats way to do it, if you can manage without drawers, is just to get a carpenter to make up bookshelves with open shelving using MDF. Then paint it in whatever colour suits your decor. Got an article on that somewhere......

Jo Important though that the mdf is painted/spraypainted with 2pack polyurethane for toughness, otherwise it will chip/flake. Kevin (kitchen guru) might be able to confirm this. A couple of desks plonked in the middle of the room it is then. Well, it would be custom-made. Yes, very expensive. Yeah you may be right Southies. I'll have to dig up the article. In it, the people had a carpenter knock it up for about 2k floor to ceiling. That's on my to do list for tonight. Might be able to scan a pic and get some details. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Study Layout/Design Costs? 14Sep 02, 2008 5:09 pm Some kitchen companies do this sort of thing also. I'd try them 1st. Probably cheaper than a cabinetmaker.
And any cabinetmaker will do either painted mdf or timber veneer. I'd check out the yellow pages myself, rather than googling. We are having our study fitted out by a cabinet maker - well it has one wall done we are adding to the other wall for my desk, we had to go with a cabinet maker to match what was there. Will PM you with cost. Paula Re: Study Layout/Design Costs? 17Sep 02, 2008 11:48 pm I know that in Ikea's latest catalogue there is now a desk add-on for their Expedit range of bookcases. There are also drawer units and door units. Might be worth a look.
Judie Thanks for the suggestion. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6128 Possibly both depending on the sizing. Idea of working from the centre is that you dont have a 20mm thin tile at one end and a 400mm at the other end. A quick search on… 3 8401 You never have a fridge against wall as you’ve drawn. The doors can’t open past 90 degrees and it’s difficult and maybe impossible to remove drawers 2 15583 |
