Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Nov 30, 2017 12:40 pm We are very fortunate to be building a new home and have just decided on a design. However I am already challenged with interior styling! You see, I love "old fashioned" styling. Think "escape to the country" and you have the idea. I love a home with character, quirks, antique furniture etc We have been seduced by a beautiful, modern, open plan design, which I know will be perfect for our family, but how do you style a new build so it doesn't look like a new build? We are using a volume builder, so cant use all recycled materials. Display homes are beautiful and co-ordinated but just seem too perfect to me, so I don't want to replicate the display. We are leaning towards a "hamptons" style façade, which to me is timeless (but also on trend.) Should we continue the hamptons look inside? Looking for inspiration to add character please! Re: How to make a house a home? 2May 09, 2018 4:28 pm I know where you are coming from, many of the display and new homes are quite sterile and boring (IMO). I'm not sure if your builder would allow this but you could install some Easycraft Wall Panels instead of plaster sheets to some walls, or they can be installed after onto plaster walls but not sure if they look as good that way if you have cornice as they would butt up against the cornice if done after. https://www.bunnings.com.au/easycraft-e ... g_p0330158 We are having some of the Easy VJ panels installed in our house and they look fantastic. You can get them at Bunnings but they are not cheap, however they add some texture and warmth. Shaker kitchen cupboards would also compliment the Hampton's look. I also really wanted to get these internal doors as they have got more character than most others I've seen: https://www.bunnings.com.au/corinthian- ... r_p2037979 but budget wouldn't allow as they are fairly expensive so I went with different ones. Then it's about getting some different lighting happening (pendants, lamps etc) and some nice rugs for the floors and art on the walls Re: How to make a house a home? 3May 16, 2018 11:42 am I am hearing you. Despite living quite minimalistic now, I love hamptons. My most favourite house is this one, and she is now onto her next home. Annemarie will post where she buys her items too! Have fun browsing. Above means you need to patch the cornice and might need to deal with… 2 61362 |
