Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Aug 01, 2008 6:01 pm Hi
Help please with our kitchen colour selection - splashback, ceasarstone colour, and thoughts on our selected cabinet colours. We have selected Amari Oak for our kitchen cupboards with Wenge as a feature colour. Our selection for wall colour is Antique White USA and our floor is spotted gum. We are thinking of having a warm ceasarstone colour for the benchtops and we are looking at Ivory, Raw Silk, Bondi, Latte. The other thing that is of concern to us in regard to using ceasarstone is the join (we have a 5 m bench)!!! We are still unsure about the glass splashback but we were looking at a warm coffee tone, or even a dark red if we will be brave enough to use it and if it can complement Amari Oak and Wenge Any thoughts/comments would be highly appreciated, Thanks, Peter & Ebby braveheart Re: Colour selection 2Aug 01, 2008 6:26 pm Hi there,
I have looked at your selections….the best C/stone colour would be Ivory. Why I have chose that colour is – You will need a contrast in colour to the laminates and flooring, also the warm coffee colour if you use it for the splashback. By having the lighter colour in the C/stone now gives you the perfect contrast for ALL your colour selections. Also the Ivory will work well with Antique White USA. It looks good, nice choices! We think we will use the ivory. Do you think we should go for a bolder splashback instead of the coffee tone? We have seen Amari Oak used in display shops for Kitchens with a nice deep red tone - we are not sure whether it is the Murray Red ??? Our house is a reverse (upstairs living) with a large open plan area to take advantage of the view and our splashback will be quite a considerate size. Another concern is the join in the ceasarstone because our bench is going to be 5 m long - we have read comments in the Kitchen section of this forum of horror joins in ceasarstone. If the joins are that bad then we might look at using Corian although we don't like the look. Thanks, Peter & Ebby braveheart Re: Colour selection 4Aug 01, 2008 7:23 pm I love Corrian……BUT if you make it VERY clear to the kitchen installer and the person making the benchtop……2 different people by the way, that you want minimum joins, or else you will NOT accept the top, and you will NOT pay for it!!!!
Stand firm straight way about this…..then if there is a problem you can always come back with……”I told you, now fix it”! It’s hard for me to give you a splash back colour, I don’t really know about your furnishings and what else you are having near the kitchen. I personally love the Murray Red…..that’s no secret, but you have a very dark laminate in the Wenge……you need to take that into consideration. So to me 2 dark colours may not be such a good idea. How Wenge is there going to be? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Colour selection 5Aug 01, 2008 7:44 pm Thanks Michelle,
Wenge is going to be on the microwave tower at one end of the kitchen, and winerack and a feature glass panel door at the other end of the kitchen, as well as at the back of the island benchtop. We selected Wenge because we wanted a darker colour as we had a lot of brown. Our furniture is mainly brown and white with a few feature red tones. Carpet will be neutral/brown with probably chocolate or darker rugs. Thanks for your advise about talking to the ceasarstone supplier to ensure the joint is minimised. We were told some ceasarstone colours are worse with joins than others - we wonder how Ivory would turn out. Thanks, Peter & Ebby braveheart Re: Colour selection 6Aug 01, 2008 7:51 pm I would imagine the darker the bench top colour in anything wether C/stone or laminate is the deciding factor about seeing the joins!
Your colour should be ok. I would do what one of the other members has done with her splash back….paint some boards up in the colours you like then put them with all your other selections, its always good to have larger samples of paint colours to work off. This will help you make a firm decision on which colour to go with. Peter & Ebby braveheart Re: Colour selection 8Aug 02, 2008 6:00 am Hi Braveheart,
Your kitchen colours sound lovely I also like the mixture of wood, glass and another solid colour. Here is a my favourite 'coffee coloured' splasback in the pic below...the kitchen is featured in a few magazines at the moment and the splasback colour really complements the dark wood panels on the side. Is this the coffee colour you were thinking about? http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh43/jacck/62007.jpg Mrs B Re: Colour selection 9Aug 02, 2008 8:09 am Thanks Mrs B
The coffee colour is exactly what we want - we have also seen it in a few magazines. Thanks for posting the photo braveheart Re: Colour selection 10Aug 06, 2008 9:51 pm Mrs B, Michelle and forum members,
Does anyone know or can anyone guess what colour the above kitchen splashback (photo posted by Mrs B) is? We have tried to match it, gone to Bunnings, and Dulux Dealer but we have not even come close to finding it. We looked at Dulux Rich Biscuit but it is abit dark. The coffee coloured tone look like it is a browny/green colour. Any suggestions or ideas please? Ebby braveheart Re: Colour selection 11Aug 06, 2008 9:58 pm Hi Braveheart, but it does look similar to the Dulux? Snakeskin that coljacqld used for hers?
http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd62/coljacqld/DSCN2967.jpg Have you checked that one out yet? It might look different under lights? Not sure if i'm helping or not??? Ebby Hi braveheart, The picture does not reflect the true colour of the glass as the under cupboard lights are making it much lighter. The magazine I have got of this kitchen, it looks like a very deep gold/amber colour. I have been looking through my new dulux fandeck that was sent to me by someone and the closest colours I can find are..Ginger Crunch, Alluvial Inca, Balsam Pear, butter scotch....but none of them are right I love the colour as well so I might email the architect to see if he will tell us the colour. In the article it did say it was a coffee colour....well that helps Mrs B Re: Colour selection 13Aug 07, 2008 11:28 am Hi Mrs B
I have already emailed the architect - we will wait and see whether he tells us the colour. In the meantime I will have a look at the colours you mentioned above. Thanks, Ebby braveheart Re: Colour selection 14Aug 07, 2008 11:33 am Ebby….looks like the glass in that splash back has the green tinge in it.
See if you can get a small sample of the glass you will be using, and put some painted up colours behind it. To me it has altered the colour of the paint on the back of the glass. Could you please suggest some colours with brown green tone?

I have a few for you to go look at. Dulux – 1) Antique 2) Oyster Linen More on the brown side. Wattyl 1) Pepper 2) Deep Twilight Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Colour selection 19Aug 07, 2008 10:02 pm Thanks Michelle, I will have a look at the colours you suggested.
Mrs B: I received a reply from the architect stating that the colour in the photo is Dulux DEEP TAN. I had a look at Dulux website colour atlas and the colour does look different from the magazine - it is much deeper and looks more of chocolate/brown. I will have to buy a sample pot and try it out. I think I like the way it looks in the magazine than the way it looks on the dulux website braveheart Re: Colour selection 20Aug 07, 2008 10:06 pm Colour never comes up the same in mags…..
