Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Feb 08, 2016 9:10 am Hi all, We’re buying a brand new two bedroom apartment. We think it’s in a wonderful area and we’re fortunate enough to have scored a top-floor apartment with distant water views — super excited about this! The demographic for this area is largely affluent retirees with smaller groups of wealthy-ish, lifestyle-seeking new couples. We can see ourselves living here for 7+ years at least, and we’d love to make the place our own — we’re both designers, but we also plan to get the help of a talented local interior designer. The internal floorspace of this two bedroom apartment is ~75m2, divided into three main areas: bedroom 1, bedroom 2 and kitchen/living. This means that each room is smallish, and lacking that luxury, open plan and spacious feel a ‘penthouse’ deserves. We’re thinking about knocking down the non-load bearing wall between bedroom 2 and the kitchen/living space to create an impressively large open plan, single bedroom penthouse. The new space would span more than 10m in length! We think a luxurious single bedroom penthouse (fits our now and future needs) would be so exciting when compared to a more standard-sized two bedroom. We’re not looking to ‘make’ money on the idea, but we don’t want to ‘loose’ money, either. We’re in no rush also. So, what do you think? Is it an idea worth considering or forgetting? FWIW: We plan to chat with some local real estate agents about this idea, also. Re: Converting 2 bedroom unit into large 1 bedroom 2Feb 09, 2016 7:25 am About fifteen years ago I worked for a mate of mine converting two average sized two bedroom units into one large unit with one bedroom. This was overlooking the new Barangaroo foreshore park on the twentieth storey with superb views of the Opera House and the harbour bridge. The clients reasoning was that being in their 60's they didn't have any kids at home and they wanted a large unit with a decent sized lounge room. By the time we finished it was a very schmick place and worth a lot more combined than the two units were worth individually. We both love open-plan living, it’s what we’re used to and what we think is luxurious. And, the space we’re hoping to create is definitely more towards the a luxurious/designer apartment end of things. Any more opinion or advice would be wonderful! start from at least $20,000 just for fixtures and finishes and then add on for moving plumbing and extra for a concrete floored house last new bathroom we installed in a… 1 17859 2 9419 If I hire a contractor to convert a window to a sliding door will I need to show them Council approval paperwork?
