Was really impressed. I would say no for that Mike.
They used a lot of moulded plywood and the ironic thing is they were trying to make affordable pieces for the masses. I'm not a designer person as such, I like what I like, but the thing that I enjoy about Eames pieces is what I enjoy about Starcke's designs. They look like they are to be used, to be enjoyed, not to be looked at. They look like kids should jump on them and they shouldn't be treated with kid gloves. After all, it is furniture. I also adore Starcke's sense of fun. Apalled that your designs are going for $1000 U.S.? Mass produce them for Target at $9 a pop. That's my idea of a designer! Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Is this Eames? 4Jun 27, 2008 9:33 pm How funny is that - I've just got off Ebay, looking at an Eames reproduction coffee table (plywood) that I WANT!!!!!!! Jo, for someone who's not a "designer person", you have designer taste!!! I know what you mean about being user friendly, though! And Monsieur Starcke says he's disillusioned and retiring at the end of next year...... (mind you, if you're that disheartened, wouldn't you just quit now??? ) Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Is this Eames? 6Jun 27, 2008 9:40 pm Yes, definitely. He was quoted as saying "design is irrelevant and unimportant" ....something along those lines, and basically that his work was of no significance, he felt disillusioned with the whole designing thing, and would stop at the end of next year! Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Is this Eames? 7Jun 27, 2008 9:46 pm Oh is that all. He nearly quit when the first chair he designed sold for U.S. $400. What is the point of people cannot afford, etc, etc.? I think he has real issues with the price of designer stuff. He believes everyone deserves something beautiful and unique. That's why he did all the stuff with U.S. Target. Usually after one of his crisis he comes up with something amazing. French drama queen!
But I adore everything he's ever done. My Starcke Alessi juicer sits on my bench and brings me happiness every time I look at it. Simple, perfect, beautiful, quirky design. Starcke in a nutshell. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Is this Eames? 8Jun 27, 2008 9:52 pm joles French drama queen! Jo I love that juicer - now THAT reminds me of War Of The Worlds!!! I didn't know he had had several dummy spits!!!! That's what DH and I love about the Georg Jensen designs, too - simple, functional and supremely beautiful! Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Is this Eames? 9Jun 27, 2008 9:58 pm Mike, it doesn't look like Eames to me, it may be Tessa? But hey i'm not an expert? Why do you ask by the way? Are you looking to buy it?
See if there is anything on Google with a listing of the Eames style/range? Re: Is this Eames? 10Jun 27, 2008 11:09 pm Got some research to do.....thanks guys. Got some names...got google...got credit card....hey all set.
*P* I was looking at a comfy designer armchair for the study but nothing ultra modern. I've got quite a large loft study now (3+ x 5 m) and there's a spot for a thinking chair....complete frivolity but the lines of the armchair caught my eye and of course the timber....I've got a photo of another one off realestate.com just can't find it. Is it wrong to steal other people's ideas? May have to post another of what I think is a fantastic space created from nothing. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Is this Eames? 12Jun 28, 2008 8:36 am I don’t know……I’m not a furniture expert.
But I do know there are a lot of copies, and furniture that LOOKS like another company’s furniture around.
