Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jul 17, 2008 10:41 am Hi Michelle, ( or anyone with any suggestions ),
Our house is painted in Bristol 'South Pole' which I am now a bit disappointed in as I find it a bit cold, but anyway I am now ready to paint some feature walls but I'm not sure on the colours. I want to paint a home theater, main bedroom, family room & rumpus. When you are in the kitchen you are looking at the family room wall/alcove & you can also see the rumpus room wall to the right. So I think these need to either be the same colour or complement each other. I have beige/stone colour floor tiles in these areas and furniture is dark teak/bali style timber and couch is a chocolate/raison colour (this will be brown leather by next year ). I have been looking at colours like dulux 'sea elephant' & 'toffee fingers', but not sure. I would like something to warm up the area a bit. The main bedroom has bali style timber, but not as dark, and this room doesn't feel as 'cold'. I would like to stick to same tonings, but still not sure. I hope I haven't confused you all too much. I look forward to your suggestions & thank you in advance. Re: Help with feature wall colours.....please 2Jul 17, 2008 10:47 am PIP…..any chance you can post some photos of the rooms for me???
It will help a lot. Thanks…… Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Help with feature wall colours.....please 3Jul 17, 2008 10:58 am Hi Pip,
I'm also having South Pole throughout but with greys and charcoals. South Pole has a touch of grey so it does tend to be a bit "cooler" than a white paint with a hint of brown. If you have Balinese style furniture what about using reds or reddy/orange? Maybe you could check out some display homes that have used South Pole and see what they've done to add warmth. I'm sure Michelle will be much more help than me. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Cant post photos at the moment but the house is Carlisle HomesAtlantique. I have attached floorplan, hope it helps. Our house is the original Atlantique, not Mk2, as attached, but is basically the same. Hope this helps,(hope I have managed to attach floorplan correctly). Hi Joles, I do like reds & burnt oranges but am a bit afraid of being so bold. Besides, my son has picked red for his room, I know that you shouldnt put this in a kids bedroom because it isnt restful etc but its his favourite colour, so if you can suggest a red for him that would be great. I just didnt want to ask too much at once. Thanks. Oops, sorry I cant figure out how to attach floorplan, but website is www.carlislehomes.com.au Hope it isnt too much trouble. Re: Help with feature wall colours.....please 5Jul 17, 2008 11:50 am Pip….just had a look, I love their homes!!!!
I can’t find the original “Atlantique” just this one….Mk2. Where do I look for it???? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Help with feature wall colours.....please 6Jul 17, 2008 12:30 pm The original Atlantique is pretty much the same as the MK2. I want a feature wall where the TV recess is. Our tv recess is bigger as it goes all the way to left, we dont have the bed. 4 door opening into the back of it. We also have a bigger opening at the rumpus as we have 2 large (2400) double doors, not just the opening. The rumpus wall we want to paint is the one opposite the doors, it has 3 small square windows in it. So you can see how when you are in the kitchen looking in that direction, you can see both walls.
Sorry i'm not that quick on replying, I'm at work : Re: Help with feature wall colours.....please 7Jul 17, 2008 1:07 pm PIP I'm at work : Aren’t we all!!!! I thought about your suggestion for reds/reddy orange. Do you have any particular colours that you have seen, it might still be an option. Also do you know of any display homes that have south pole paint so I can see what colours they have used as well. Thanks. Re: Help with feature wall colours.....please 11Jul 21, 2008 4:52 pm Hi PIP,
I'm really only familiar with M3tricon as we are building with them. The Nolan at Point Cook is definately South Pole. It's on their website for that home. They used black and green in that. Even though it's not on the website the upstairs bedroom used different colours. Umm blue, yellow and something else maybe? The Grandview at Caroline Springs may be South Pole. They used reds, golds and blacks. It's a really nice red there actually. Have a look on the website for that house. It's the first one that comes up. If it's not South Pole it's very similar I think. We're not using reds so not sure. The only red we are having is the front door and that is called All Spice. It's a pretty full on red with a hint of orange. Maybe that? But I hadn't really thought of it in the context of internally, but I think it would be pretty good with the dark wood. I'm no expert but anyway! My house is also painted in South Pole but I too have browns, greys throughout. Brown feature walls would warm up the house. Take a look at Boulder Ridge (bristol) when i get a chance i will attach photo. Re: Help with feature wall colours.....please 13Jul 21, 2008 5:05 pm PIP,
I've got this dulux booklet I picked up somewhere and it's a 2008-2009 colour forecast. It's got a pallette called Oriental Age and in that section there's some really beautiful reds and oranges. Hard to tell from the little samples but maybe a good starting point? Some nice complimentary colours as well! Moody Gem is sort of yellowy, grey. Sounds revolting, but it's divine. Terrence Malick Re: Help with feature wall colours.....please 14Jul 21, 2008 5:24 pm We like the Balinese look and have considered a couple of colours for our feature walls. You could try Tuk Tuk or Brazilian Bean (browns), Designer Moroccan Kiss (red brown) or Swiss Pear (olive green). All Dulux.
I'm sure Mish will point you in the right direction tho' . Re: Help with feature wall colours.....please 15Jul 21, 2008 8:47 pm I haven’t forgotten about you….sorry jut too just at the moment!

Thanks for the replies. Joles: I will have a look at the Metricon website. Will also try & get that colour forecast brochure. tomtzam1:Will check out Boulder Ridge, would love to see a photo. DeeElle: Those colours sound gorgeous, will check them out too. Michelle: Whenever you get a chance is fine, I know you are busy. Pip. Re: Help with feature wall colours.....please 17Jul 22, 2008 6:06 pm Pip……I just got a NEW Bristol fan deck last week.
You will never guess……the pages run in sequence, your colour is on 201, guess what’s missing in the fan deck???? From 197 to 203!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I swear I could shoot Taubmans/Bristol! I have no idea what colour South Pole is…..but I’ll take a stab at a light grey????? One thing to remember with greys all colours will go with it. It’s also a cold colour, so you need to balance out from cold to warm. So my suggestions would be warm colours. Like already mentioned, reds, deep oranges, browns, stay away from more cool colours like blues and greens. 'Sea Elephant' is a lovely colour! Sounds like your on the right track there. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Help with feature wall colours.....please 18Jul 23, 2008 9:11 am Hi Michelle,
Thanks for your reply. South Pole is a white, but you are right, it has a grey tinge. I will definately stick to warm colours. What I was wondering is if there are any rules regarding the 2 walls (family & rumpus) where you can see both from the kitchen/family rooms. Should they be the same colour or can I have 2 different colours, e.g sea elephant on family & toffee fingers on rumpus, or are these colours too close together or too dark? Have I confused you? Pip. Re: Help with feature wall colours.....please 20Jul 23, 2008 10:19 am My suggestion would be to paint one of the walls in the Sea Elephant, and then find a nice big piece of canvas Artwork fir the other!
In the artwork you would be looking for colours to complement the feature wall colour, and then splashes of hot colours as well!!!
