What’s happening with the last one……the red and black are both very dominate colours, so they will always be competing with each other.
That’s not restful …..and after a while could prove to be very unsettling.

I liked Mrs B's idea way back to have it mirrored...........I think that looks nice too. So many choices............. Hey Dy, LOL, you know what, up until i read this post, i would have said Silver, as it gives you the flexibility to add other accent colours if needed and would compliment the surrounding furnishings no matter what colour they were..... My opinion is that if you were going to go black you would put up the same granite as the benchtop to make it then a seamless sort of look as opposed to 3 different colours/textures together. The red is nice too, dont get me wrong, I love it, but i think that it introduces one too many colours into the look of the kitchen, making it look a bit busy, if you get my drift. BUT, in saying that, i actually think that a mirror would look fantastic!!!!!!! ----SORRY... I wish i had done it here, but alas, too late for me. Maybe another option for you to look at? But make it the silver backed variety, not the bronze if you're looking at it... since it would go with your selections more smoothly. Sorry Dy, dont mean to confuse you any more....There is no need to take any more pics now as Dan has done a great job with Photoshop.... It made it a lot easier to envisage the final outcome.... Thats exactly what i wanted to see. You're a legend Dan- thanks for that!!! Re: The dreaded splashback question 83Aug 27, 2008 12:30 pm I absolutely love the look of mirrored splashbacks but the thought of seeing myself cook and catching climpses out of the corner of my eye freaks me out a little bit. It would drive me nuts! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: The dreaded splashback question 84Aug 27, 2008 12:40 pm Joles you probably would only see your hands...........depends I suppose where the splashback goes up to and how tall you are............but if its just going to be your hands that you see you could always put gloves on and pretend someone else is cooking for you................
Sorry my mind goes off on tangents sometimes............................. Imagine leaning over the cooktop to taste a sauce and seeing your own big wide mouth coming at yourself........ Jo Do love the look though. Terrence Malick Re: The dreaded splashback question 87Aug 27, 2008 1:17 pm I still say that this silver by ‘chelle is the most stunning (even though its photoshop) I love the red but I think the silver goes with the overall feeling of the house. It will be much easier to accessorise the kitchen as any colour will go with it. The black...no from me It’s your house Dy and you have to live with the colour...silver or red will both look gorgeous Mrs B Re: The dreaded splashback question 88Aug 27, 2008 10:06 pm lol you guys are a scream. I had an image of a big red mouth lurking above the sauce pot and got a fright myself . I read too many horror stories.
Well we have procastinated sufficiently to totally annoy everyone on site lol. The builder likes red, my DD loves red, I like red but agree it might compete a bit. Funny thing is now that the floors and benchtops are in the blue/grey cupboards now just look plain metallic grey. The red looks fabulous during the day, the silver (which is actually a mirrored look believe it or not) looks pretty plain and the black is plain sexy . Red looks best during the day and black looks magnificent at night. It is a black metallic background with coloured glitter and ultra violet flecks. It looks a bit like a galaxy. Trouble is that during the day it is not so magnificent. I could always dress the kitchen up with red accessories . So we are undecided. I am a bit concerned about making the wrong choice as it really looks great atm. Wish I could show you some pics of the deck and rest of the room .. I might try and upload more tonight on the BNH forum. I'm flummoxed. But confess we told the glass guru to go with ..... black . My mother refuses to give me advice coz she reckons I always choose the opposite. Re: The dreaded splashback question 89Aug 27, 2008 10:15 pm Excuse my manners ... Dan tyvm for the photoshop effort. Looks great. It doesn't show the black up to its full advantage as in reality it is extremely reflective, but you've helped by showing the 3 options. The black glittered glass also reflects off the benchtops so it looks cohesive if you know what I mean.
But it is still black. Thanks again everyone. Our glass guru has given me 24 hours to change my mind as he is well aware of my personality and reckons splashbacks are the single most difficult decision for most ppl building . Re: The dreaded splashback question 90Aug 27, 2008 10:22 pm I'm not going to question your decision Dy. Every other decision you've made has been spot on.
I imagine the sparkly bits would be very dramatic at night. Maybe that can be the beauty of it? Quite practical during the day but then gets all sexy and turns it on at night. We are still talking splashbacks aren't we..... Sounds great Dy! Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Yep.... ......as long as they don't get turned on by them as well.....no...no...noOOOO!......my eyes.....my eyes.....! mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: The dreaded splashback question 94Aug 28, 2008 9:06 am Just remember its always better to have a sexy splashback and not a sexy backsplash. As long as its the right way round its all good.
No really the black does sound rather nice and I think you will much prefer dressing up with red accessories........you can get some very nice red martini glasses around the place......they look nice on show and when there is a nice fresh bowl of red apples sitting on your bench, they to will now look.... sexy sorry deliscious(sp). Its going to look fabulous and I can't wait to see the end product. Its going to look fabulous and I can't wait to see the end product. reason black is in first place is just that reason. we can dress up the kitchen any way we want and it won't impose on our design like red would. but only concern is it will look a bit ominous like Mish suggested. I never liked eating off black plates so I'm guessing the kitchen might be the same. Oh well too late now ! hopefully the glitter will lighten up the mood a bit - plus anyone that knows us will see the black for what it is .... difficulty in making a damn decision. black ... the new white for those who can't decide Re: The dreaded splashback question 96Aug 29, 2008 3:38 pm If you can, focus a couple of down lights at the splashback then it may not look as heavy (but you have the sparkly bits so it shouldn't anyway)......Just keep alot of light in.
and if you have some pretty striking (red, white, silver)feature accessories you will probably find the black will highlight those things. Think of your splashback as a frame to your accessories........alot of people use black frames to make their images stand out more........ I think its going to look stunning based on the fact that the rest of your house looks stunning also..... Re: The dreaded splashback question 97Aug 29, 2008 10:53 pm thanks gweluphome
we spoke with our glass guy tonight and he is an absolute gem. We highly recommend him. He understood our dilemma and although he has cut the glass he suggested he paint it the black colour and put it up in our kitchen early next week (but not glued on). He'll leave it for a week and if we don't like it he will take it off and replace with a different colour. What a guy - I just love him. He reckons we are the nicest ppl he has worked with (probably says that to all his customers ) and because we've had such a difficult time with it all he wants to help us out. I am so impressed. Once he said that the anxiety just flew out the window. I am sure splashbacks are so difficult for ppl because they are a fairly large area and you don't want it to intrude on your decor too much. Anyhow they'll arrive early next week so I'll post pics for you. Cheers and thanks everyone Re: The dreaded splashback question 98Aug 30, 2008 8:01 am that is so great DeeElle. Your glass guy sounds really nice - must restore your faith a bit after all your troubles.
Did you tell him you'll use him for your next build (ha ha - I can't believe you said that either! ) Re: The dreaded splashback question 100Aug 30, 2008 8:14 am DeeElle Our glass guru has given me 24 hours to change my mind as he is well aware of my personality and reckons splashbacks are the single most difficult decision for most ppl building . Yes they seem to be the most difficult decision on this forum anyway! It's because there is so much choice with glass. If you only had tiles to pick from, you just have to go to a tile shop and pick from what they have - and there are only so many tile shops you can go to. With paint colours though, the choice is almost endless. I'm almost glad we didn't factor a glass splashback into our budget, otherwise I'm sure we'd be having just a hard time of picking a colour as the rest of you! You can really use anything you want the main consideration would be how it looks once painted/finished - or the look you want. Cabinetmakers use MDF because its cheap… 2 9978 |
