Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jun 22, 2015 10:18 am I'm after opinions on ceiling fan colour, trying to decide between a wood colour or black. The room that we're putting the fan in (open plan lounge) will have black tile floors, white walls, and lots of windows. We will probably have wood furniture for the TV unit and dining table, at this stage marri is looking like a distinct possibility. The fan we're considering comes in black, bamboo, or a darker brown wood colour. Does anyone have any opinions on any of these? Would the wood look out of place? Re: Ceiling fan colour 2Jun 22, 2015 11:09 am Can you get white - I find it sort of disappears ... Especially if walls and ceiling are white. Re: Ceiling fan colour 3Jun 22, 2015 11:45 am Hm, problem is we don't like the look of white fans, to us they look too plasticky. Re: Ceiling fan colour 4Jun 22, 2015 11:56 am I'm with Saint Mike. We will be using white throughout the house and black in our Theatre (Theatre ceiling and walls will painted black) so that they don't stand out. Re: Ceiling fan colour 6Jun 22, 2015 3:44 pm We're not keen on the metal blades as they are apparently more noisy than wood or plastic. But silver painted plastic would be a consideration, it's just not available on the models we're looking at Re: Ceiling fan colour 7Jun 23, 2015 8:56 pm I love the wooden fans Trixee ... I have Tahitian style as I'm going for a moody resort look. I think if your fans have style, they don't have to hide. With your black floors and dark timber furniture I think either would look pretty fabulous ... but wood should give you a softer look -- that would be my personal preference... Which is no help to you as we all like different things Re: Ceiling fan colour 8Jun 23, 2015 9:33 pm Thanks TomCat. Problem is I'm not confident when it comes to matching woods, so not sure whether I should choose dark or light. Re: Ceiling fan colour 9Jun 23, 2015 11:08 pm I know too many choices If you're just having trouble visualising, try cutting out little pictures of them and your furniture and placing them together -- that can help. Or have a browse through www.houzz.com for some inspiration Re: Ceiling fan colour 11Jun 24, 2015 7:21 am I have no probs with wooden fans - although some do look big and bulky. Personal choice imo. Depending on height of ceilings - the bigger the fan the more noticeable it is. Re: Ceiling fan colour 12Jun 29, 2015 3:39 am My steel fans are whisper quiet I even forget they're on. I would go timber as I think black would be too stark. Re: Ceiling fan colour 14Jul 04, 2015 7:27 am We have black window frames (lots of windows) and white walls. We have the black fans in our open plan living area. They look fantastic Get lots of comments about them however they aren't the first thing you notice when you enter our space. Our windows are high and we have an exposed black steel beam within this space as well so the fans don't look out of place. Apart from the kitchen pendants nothing else is in the ceiling space i.e downlights. The remainder of the house has white fans. Re: Ceiling fan colour 15Jul 04, 2015 2:31 pm Thanks dolphinblu, that's reassuring! It sounds like we have a similar colour scheme. My kitchen cabinets will also be black, so there's another tie-in. Re: Ceiling fan colour 16Jul 04, 2015 7:47 pm I just noticed you blog title Trixee. We just completed a Sustainable/ Passive solar reno in NSW:-) I hope you are enjoying the process. We are really enjoying our lovely new spaces and how it responds/ works with our surrounds. Re: Ceiling fan colour 17Jul 04, 2015 11:02 pm I'm alternately enjoying the process and finding it frustrating at the same time, although overall I think I'm enjoying it. I just can't wait to live in a nice comfortable house! Re: Ceiling fan colour 19Jan 29, 2016 7:39 am I'm going black fans but our home will have an industrial style feel...we are having black window and sliding door frames, grey/white paint schemes with timber floors and accents of metal here and there (copper pendants metal and timber furniture etc) I figure if we get sick of them later it's pretty cheap to replace one by one...same category as my tapware in the bathrooms...I'm doing black taps again easily changed if we want to change the look good luck!
