Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jun 01, 2015 1:51 pm We have a sliding door here sitting in our loungeroom that we need to pick a paint colour for and get up. Its to block off the hall to the kids bedrooms/bath/laundry from the open plan kitchen/dining/living. But we just can't pick. In that area we have lots of warm greys, whites, blacks, natural coloured timber and then a big black falcon stove in the kitchen. (Haymes polar bear walls and trim, white varnished oak laminate, moose, pearl grey and polar white joinery) But as far as furniture etc, its a pretty blank canvas - we need new stuff, and we don't have ANY art or decorative elements at all. I'd take a pic, but there is stuff everywhere at the moment! Initially we were going to do the door black with a hardwood pelmet to match the timber pendant lights over the kitchen bench (which have a black cord) but then I got worried that it was too big a panel of black (its a big door - 1m wide and over 2 m high) and would just look like a big black hole! We were looking at paint swatches yesterday and hubby now thinks we should go for a bold "pop" of colour. I tried to talk him down to a deep navy blue, but I'm not really a blue person and so still wasn't sold and he's not keen because its not bright enough either. So, what colour would you paint a huge sliding door??? Re: Ridiculous design conundrum! 2Jun 03, 2015 11:00 am What about teal? (I might be biased, I'm loving this colour atm) but it goes wonderfully with wood tones, blacks and greys.... http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/b609/WestAussieforeva/teal%20and%20timber_zpsinfwgadw.jpg Re: Ridiculous design conundrum! 6Jun 04, 2015 1:12 pm I think we have found a solution - we're going to paint it white or whatever, then starch fabric over it, similar to wallpaper. Apparently it should stick well and be removable which means we can change it up whenever we feel like it! I'll post pics when we get it done Re: Ridiculous design conundrum! 7Jun 04, 2015 6:16 pm It might be easier to get the new stick on, peel off wallpaper. And there's so many designs you can choose from including fake brick, wood, concrete, just about anything you can imagine... Once you know the basics, the rest is easy.
