Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 04, 2015 4:44 pm Hi Michelle, I have followed your advice on this forum for quite some time and really respect the advice you give. I am wondering if you can point me in the direction with the following. I am moving into my brand new home soon and will be purchasing a new lounge suit, dining table and tv unit and am a little bit lost!!! My walls are Grand Piano half, light beige/cream tiles and a stone benchtop in 'Cocoa Fudge'. There is lots of natural light so the area is very light and airy. The living area, dining and kitchen are all combined so all three new pieces of furniture will be relatively close together. I really love earthy/neutral tones and thinking of a lounge in a mid to dark brown colour. My question is will a mid/dark brown wood table and tv unit be too much with the brown lounge and benchtops?? Or would a lighter coloured wood like the blonde colour that has become very popular be more appropriate. Or would i be better off reversing my decision and having a lighter lounge suite and dark furniture. I also have industrial style pendant lights so am thinking that industrial style black metal chairs would suit the table over traditional style chairs, do you agree or would this look silly??? Looking forward to hearing from you. If anyone else has any suggestions then dont hesitate to let me know!! Re: Message to Michelle or others who have the decorating kn 3May 05, 2015 12:13 am I dont think its a problem. Light curtains (even sheers) cushions and throws should help. I'm going all dark furniture and darkish floors. I think it should look quite dramatic and cozy. White flowers and other accents can help bring balance. Our splashback is a colour called 'Think' which is light brown/cream colour. Our roller blinds are an off white colour and i wont be dressing the windows with anything else as i like the clean neat look and with the blinds open its so bright and airy. Our pendent lights are an industrial black metal and i have bought a large clock in a similar style to balance it out. My decor will consist of lots or natural beighy cushions in different patterns and textures and i have a large white vase with sticks and magnolia flowers. I wish i could show you a pic but we are yet to do handover so im not able to get any photos Re: Message to Michelle or others who have the decorating kn 6May 05, 2015 7:11 pm Hi Krissy, you've pretty much got it covered and I don't need to see a photo I have a visual in my head now. Your doing fine here decoration wise, go with your lounge either a mid to dark brown I think it will all blend very well. Your walls and tiles are going to lighten everything else up, and the fact that you are using natural lighting through the day is a bonus. Once in your home, look at sorting some mood lighting. Love to see a photo when you have moved in for last minute touch ups.... Have fun Krissy, you are well on track!
