Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Apr 29, 2015 10:43 am OK.. My dilemma is this.. This image is the current configuration for my Theatre Room. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ If left like this, the Screen would be on the far left wall and the seats would be close to the door. I am thinking this could be a problem if I want to raise the back row as I would probably have to use the full width of the room to do this. That means the raised section would be right in the doorway. So my thought is.. 1. Move the CSD to the left by about 500mm 2. Locate cabinets and Screen at the right side wall, Same end as CSD. 3. Relocate hightlight window from right side wall to left side wall (so would be at back of seats) 4. Make platform at far left end of room and position seats accordingly. Only small issue I can see with this is that the door is at the same end as the screen (Is it a issue?) You would then be able to walk in and then step up to back row. See very rough images below... Re: Need Help From Theatre Guru's 2Apr 29, 2015 11:32 am I'll be putting a riser for my seating, which is also a massive subwoofer that I had in my old place, and the inside door to the room is back where the seating is going to be. What I did was make the door open to the inside of the house/hallway, so a step can be placed as soon as possible inside the room, as the height of the riser does need a step to not just be legitimate, but make it easier to get in to the room. Whilst the door opening in the opposite direction to 'normal', it's the only sensible way of doing things, as the alternative is wasted space in the room to allow the door to open. Re: Need Help From Theatre Guru's 3Apr 29, 2015 11:47 am The actual door opening shouldn't pose a problem to us as it is a 1200 cavity slider. How much did you raise the second row? I'm thinking of just lifting it about 190mm (Max legal step height). Hoping that will be enough? I think with 2600mm ceilings the 190 might have to be enough as any higher will make the ceiling too low over the platform to be legal? Re: Need Help From Theatre Guru's 4Apr 29, 2015 12:31 pm Urk, a cavity slider in a HT room. Certainly something that I wouldn't do with all the sounds leakage you will experience with it. If you're prepared to accept that trade off, then that's fine. My riser is about 380mm high, as it has 2 x 15 inch drivers in it. In the old HT room that was a converted 2 car garage the bulkheads were only 2100mm high, so you would bump your head where the bulkheads we over the riser. The main roof was 2400mm high, and it wasn't a problem. The bulkheads in my new HT room don't extend as far, as well as the main ceiling height being 2590mm, and the bulkheads sit some 2370 off the floor. As you can see by the height of my riser, I need the extra step to get up on it. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Re: Need Help From Theatre Guru's 5Apr 30, 2015 9:00 am @Roomeat I have almost the exact same configuration as you and the only issue I've seen with having the door closer to screen side would be the amount of light let in if someone were to open the door mid movie... Only really a problem if you're planning on using a projector. Alkira Homes - The Olivia Re: Need Help From Theatre Guru's 6Apr 30, 2015 2:32 pm Nah not using a projector. Not sure what size yet but will be LED. The other issue I had was placement for my in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. But if I configure it this way, then the door is in a better place and won't obstruct wall space. If all goes the way I want it (and does it ever go my way.. No... Lol) then I will have floor standing sub boxes up front (built into lower cabinet), floor standing fronts and centre (once again built into cabinet), in-wall side and rear speakers and 4 in-ceiling speakers Cheers, Paul (& Lisa) Parkhill 36 by ClarendonHomes in Coomera Retreat H1 Build Thread And Blog Building Blogs List - Go Ahead And Add Yours!! Re: Need Help From Theatre Guru's 7May 05, 2015 10:56 pm We originally had a cavity slider in the plans to our theatre room. We later took it out. As you would know a cavity slider isn't done on a brick wall, it's done on chiprock so keeping sound out of the room isn't as good with a cavity slider. We have a cavity slider in our scullery which is perfect for but I'm kind of glad I didn't get it in the theatre because they are quite plain doors.
