Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jun 24, 2008 5:44 pm Ok, we are building atm, actually did our colours last August. We have the Hawthorn brick, same as VJ's (brown with bles, greys through it) and flush off-white mortar - love that. We have chosen "Paperbark" render, and a garage door in the same colour. Our windows are timber, and we had asked for them to be painted in "Winterhaven" - similar to Paperbark colour. Tiles are Soho night, gutters, fascias, downpipes are Woodland Grey. Front door will be an 8 panel tmber door, stained in "Dark Oak". DH has seen a house with our brick, but a dark render, and now thinks we should change. But I'm thinking that then we will need to change the garage door to a dark colour (say, Woodland Grey, which is what I would probably go for as a render colour) and we'll also have to change the timber windows to be either stained, or Woodland Grey as well. Any thoughts, Miichelle, or anyone? If you click on my blog link you can see the house. The render goes on the Arch bit (except for the edge bricks) and on the square pillar projected bits. Help! I think the colour looks great with your bricks, therefore the render will look great too. It may be a bit dark if you change it, and I think it may clash with the white mortar. Paula Re: HELP! Post choice colours anxiety!!! 3Jun 24, 2008 6:40 pm Petal….the best thing about timber………….EVERYING goes with!
I see no reason at all as to why you would need to change what you already have, just because you go darker on your render! Leave it as is; just decide on your new render colour! It will great. Post choice colours anxiety!!! 5Jun 25, 2008 1:27 am I'm trying to imagine what your house will look like with the options.
Personally I love wood so I'd leave the windows in their natural state (not painted) and they will go with any render colour you choose. My preference would be too keep the render light for the contrast. Nice house btw . Re: HELP! Ummm....not sure what blog you looked at, Paula but we don't have ANY doors on yet - we're not even to lock up yet??! Did you maybe go to the end where I have a photo of the PD display??? Oh, to be at that stage..... Our brick is darker than that, and , actually...everything is different! I love timber - it wasn't really offered - they have timber "look" doors - on lots of the displays - but, personally, I think they look great from a distance, when you see them closer, I think they look fake. I think paperbark render looks great with the Hawthorn bricks! Do you have a photo of the one DH found with the darker render so you can compare it against the display you based yours on? Do you think your CSR will let you change all those things now anyway? As you know I have the same CSR as you and I would not even be confident to ask to change a feature wall colour let alone the garage door!! I imagine I would get told "no changes allowed", although I can't tell from things you have said on your blog that you are better at getting your way than me Re: HELP! I sort of figured it's only paint, so it's really no big deal....is it? It was actually DH's suggestion - and he doesn't have a photo - he saw a house done like that. Might have to go for a drive! The thing is, I probably will like both - that's my problem (and was with tiles, taps, colours, etc!!! ) I love this - the "decorating" side of it - I wish I could do 100 houses, but I'm only doing one, so I have to decide and be done with it!!! Plus, we did all our selections 10 months ago, so I've had far too much time to go over and over and over and question it all! What makes you think I'm better than you at getting my own way?
