Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jun 20, 2008 7:52 pm Ok everyone, not sure if I've put this post in the right area and sorry I don't have pictures of all these things (nor am I technologically savvy enough to obtain them) and I don't know how to work paintshop to put a picture all together so I've provided the links instead. I really want some honest feedback firstly on the colours I've chosen for the outside of the house. Don't be afraid to tell me I'm an idiot and I need to start again!
so this is a picture of our house but we have 3 vertical windows in place of the one. Also our porch and around the windows will be rendered. Re: I need some honest opinions.. 3Jun 20, 2008 8:06 pm Sharee I am by no means an expert so take my advice with a grain of salt.
Your bricks I just LOVE!!! Rellie from this site has used the same ones and her house has come up really nice, from memory she has a timber look garage door and it looks really nice. Will you be having white mortar? I think this would look great with the bricks. Your roof tiles are great. As are your windows, a few people have chosen paperbark for their window frames and it always seems to look good. I agree with Paula in that 3 vertical windows will look much nicer as will the render. The only thing I can think of is that perhaps the woodland grey garage door, front door and driveway might be a bit dark with your bricks which also a darker shade. Maybe woodland grey for the driveway and a lighter colour like Dune for the front door/garage....but I don't know how this will work with the render colour you have chosen??? See I am not very good...I think I am onto something and then I forget about how it will tie in with your other selections!! Good Luck, hopefully someone can provide better advice Love your house design btw My karma ran over your dogma Re: I need some honest opinions.. 4Jun 20, 2008 8:20 pm Sharee, just be careful with Colorbond Woodland Grey, it is a dark grey but with a definite green tinge to it. We have it on our garage door so if you want me I can post a photo but we have a lot of grey with it, and silver frames for windows. Re: I need some honest opinions.. 5Jun 20, 2008 8:47 pm thanks heaps guys, I had the same thought about it all being a little dark and maybe lightening up the doors! I think it is an off white morta fingers crossed that looks ok (the bricks are pretty much the only thing I'm happy with )would love a picture of the woodland grey mek! Re: I need some honest opinions.. 6Jun 20, 2008 9:03 pm Sharee,
We also love Woodland Grey.. and it does have a green tinge to it (which we love ). What I noticed is that you are going to introduce too many colours to your front facade... Woodland grey - garage & front door Barramundi - roof tiles Homestead tan - bricks Paperbark - window frames Sandbank - render Gunmetal - driveway How about your gutters/fascias? That's only my opinion... If I was to choose, I might use the same shade of colour to the window frames & garage door (and gutters/fascias). It was our dilemma before.. that's why we decided to go for the timber windows and timber-look garage doors... lesser headache in choosing the right colour combinations to the front facade. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: I need some honest opinions.. 7Jun 20, 2008 9:18 pm Thanks VJ, I think I agree in retrospect that it would have been better to have a little more continuity of colour. We were kind of stuck because the roof had to be a mid to dark grey, and we wanted to match that with some elements on the front of the house (hence the garage door) we wanted the window frames neutral because that is how we wanted them to look on the interior and so we then wanted to match the render so they didn't stick out too much at the front. Our CSO then suggested if we kept the front door light it would get lost in the render so thought we should make that dark as well. Oh this picking of colours is hard!! Re: I need some honest opinions.. 8Jun 20, 2008 9:36 pm hi Sharee,
I had the same dilemma when choosing our exteriors. it is hard. We are having Woodland Grey on our roof, fascias, gutters and downpipes, them went with timber for windows, garage and front door - a bit like VJ - to not introduce too many colours. Hopefully Mish will drop in and have a look for you! These requirements seem very pedantic sometimes. Anyway if there are other houses already started and they all have grey roofs, can you check out the colour combinations they used for windows/ bricks/gutters/ etc and see which you like and how they look in 'real life'? Yep, its an estate requirement but each release in the estate has different requirements so not everyone has a grey roof. Thanks Helyn, I might actually do that this weekend, have a drive around and see whose colours I like. Re: I need some honest opinions.. 12Jun 21, 2008 12:38 pm Nice colours, mek
Sharee, I think the colours you've chosen sound great. We've got Woodland grey gutters, fascia and downpipes - it does have a green tinge, but it's a great colour - will look great against the Barramundi tiles. The bit of render will break it up, and along with the tall narrow windows, will give it that more contemporary feel, too - nice! It's so hard when it's so close to you, isn't it?!!!! Quite truthfully it will stick out like …..You know what! Where is the render going? I don’t see render on the photo of the house? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: I need some honest opinions.. 15Jun 21, 2008 6:54 pm Sharee we have woodland grey gutters, homestead tan bricks, paperbark window frames and barramundi roof tiles ......
Check out our blog if you want to see them all together..... Out mortar is off white and our render is is Rockcote "newrybar blend" I am also thinkinf your render may be a little too light Re: I need some honest opinions.. 16Jun 22, 2008 1:16 am Quote: Sharee, I’m having a problem with the Sandbank for your render……this colour doesn’t go with any other selection at all! Re: I need some honest opinions.. 17Jun 22, 2008 8:30 pm Thanks Mek, your exterior is lovely and I think the woodland grey is quite nice. I think you may be right Rel and Michelle, the render was the cso's idea because she thought it should blend with the window frames. Is there another colour you could suggest Michelle?
