Electrician asked me yesterday and needs to know tomorrow - I'm over making decisions Brain switched off after kitchen was sorted...... Our ceiling is China White & we have quite a few downlights in our open living (about 20 I think) between kitchen/dine & family room. Any thoughts would be very helpfull, Jo P.S. Kitchen bench top going in today & looks fantastic Re: White or chrome downlights???? 2Jun 17, 2008 1:46 pm I like them to blend in with the ceiling and not be noticed.
Unless I’m doing commercial then I make them look industrial. Can you imagine having a nice new chandelier, like there is now available? Sticking it in the centre of you dining room table…….then ….seeing 20 other chrome lights in the ceiling as well as your expensive chandelier? Blend them in…..do white. That's is what I was thinking, but when I was at the house this morning the kitchen guy was saying chrome as was the electrician, so got confused (not hard at the moment). As usual first instict is usually the best Re: White or chrome downlights???? 4Jun 17, 2008 1:54 pm Don’t listen to them…..their just following the fashion, and not thinking of the practical side…….. If you can imagine a large combined family/dining/kitchen/hall. I have seen at least 20 or more down lights in this type of one large open area! I agree with you though, there is NO need for that many lights, but people like to get carried away! Especially when dads a sparky………. That was what MY comment was referring to when I said 20 other lights. Thanks for your concern Al, but really just wanted to work out wether to have white or chrome - that's why I posted in the Decorating section of forum Re: White or chrome downlights???? 11Jun 17, 2008 3:58 pm If your ceiling is a 'standard' white then the white downlight fittings are fine.
Our ceilings are an antique white so we asked for chrome. Unfortunately even though we gave the builder a sample of exactly what we wanted (they hadn't used GU10 fittings before) the sales consultants hadn't written it down on our specs anywhere ... and we ended up with white. Looks good at night but not during the day. Re: White or chrome downlights???? 13Jun 17, 2008 5:35 pm Quote: Looks good at night but not during the day. I suppose this is what I was worried about Lyn. I would prefer them to be white & blend in, but because ceiling is an off white didn't know how this would look. Still think that they would blend in fairly well though .. Re: White or chrome downlights???? 14Jun 17, 2008 5:59 pm You can get off white down lights. Have you decided yet Jo? Think I'll stick to the white.......I think it is another one of those things that would be fine either way, just have to make a decision!!! I'll post some kitchen pics once kickers are on & overheads are in - then I'll start working on splashback colour - much more fun than downlights! We even went to the extreme of getting matching power points in the kitchen and the builders' optional stainless microwave and trim kit! Geoff - Decophile.
