Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jan 20, 2015 6:54 pm Hi all We have selected the Cabot's chest nut colour for our front door - pic taken at external colours appointment: The a printed copy showed by the colour consultant showed a light brown shade... where as the pic we have taken at the Studio is more of a dark brown shade (closer to charcol). Cabot's website also shows a light brown colour . I am really confused what to go by - the colour consultant told us that printed colour is always different...but THIS different? We want to use the same colour for some of the internal doors, and this will impact all our internal colours, especially the kitchen. She also hasn't told us of a display home where we can see this colour in person. Has anyone selected this colour for their woodwork? Or, do you have any feedback on this? Edit: Picture links above don't seem to be working, refer here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/wjszv4ad95px ... 8itKa?dl=0 Many thanks Monalisa Metricon Glendale 38 - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75696&p=1298363#p1298363 Selections: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75696&start=60 Tiles - p25 Re: Cabot's chestnut stain colour - need your feedback pleas 2Jan 21, 2015 8:06 am Chestnut is traditionally known as a light reddish brown (exactly like the first pic in your link). I think what you want is walnut. They are COMPLETELY different. Yes good idea to look at Cabot's site. Even better -- go into a hardware store to view a colour chip. Most paint/stain companies have them on display. Cabot's do. Re: Cabot's chestnut stain colour - need your feedback pleas 3Jan 21, 2015 9:43 am In my experience the end colour is totally dependent on the initial colour of the wood, as well as the type of wood. You can never exactly determine the colour you will end up with unless you are looking at a sample piece of wood that is the same type of wood you will be staining, and the same colour to begin with too. I agree with TomCat and you should view a piece of wood at the hardware store. Better still, find out what type of wood you're staining, and buy the stain and wood from Bunnings to do it and see it for yourself. My builder won't even go near the staining of my front door because the colours of the samples are so inaccurate for some of the woods! Have decided to change to Rich Walnut... more traditional, safer option. Seen it at a display home, and it looks nice - I know it may not turn out the same...but have a better idea than the chestnut stain. It appears darker, like the swatches, internally. You can't go wrong with Rich walnut, it's very classic. But she told us she didn't have the time/capacity to advise us on this. So we took the safer option. Here is hoping Rich Walnut is Ok too.
