Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jan 07, 2015 8:12 pm Hi All I have a dilemma. We are currently extending our place by adding an open plan living, kitchen and dining area. It is an L shape extension. The roof is skillion and the slant is obvious inside. The lowest height is 2.4m and the highest is about 3m (i think, will have to check with hubby). The issue I'm having is with fans, if I should have pendant lights with fans or fans and LED down lights (not really a fan of down lights). I will need 2 fans. The kitchen island is large and will require 4 pendant lights to provide enough lighting. I would be happy to have a lovely looking fan in the 'living and dining spaces' as long as it could also provide enough light- which they don't seem to. Will having pendants and fans look to busy? Should the fans be placed between the 'living/ kitchen & living/ dining' areas? I hope my description makes sense. I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you Re: Fans and Pendent lights- advice please 2Jan 07, 2015 11:59 pm I used pendants over the kitchen bench, and 2 fans and 4 LEDs for the rest of the living area. The area is also open plan. It was a good compromise (My living area has a raked ceiling.) Edit: I also have a 6 light chandelier in the room but not in the section where the fans are... It matches the pendant lights in the kitchen. This arrangement doesn't look "busy". A lot of people overdo the amount of LEDs they actually need. (Some plan for effects, we just wanted efficiency and economy.) We planned for 6 LEDs and reduced it to 4 on advice from the lighting shop and it works fine! Re: Fans and Pendent lights- advice please 3Jan 09, 2015 4:25 pm Do you have a plan you can post to help with dimensions and to give us an idea of the space? Re: Fans and Pendent lights- advice please 4Jan 10, 2015 10:36 am Here's the lighting plan. http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/b609/WestAussieforeva/001_zps737c89a4.jpg I can't get the whole space in a photo but hope this helps: http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/b609/WestAussieforeva/299277ef-b0eb-4137-8dd1-e36eec99c2d6_zps61847702.jpg The area, including kitchen is 11,308 long and the depth is 8,512. The chandelier is in the middle of the "fan" section of the beams. Re: Fans and Pendent lights- advice please 5Jan 11, 2015 5:36 pm I wonder if pendants will rock when the fans are on? Does anyone have any experience with this as I would be interested to know. We have decided to opt for wall scones (if needed). Will see how we go with the pendant lights in the kitchen and the fans we have picked, which also have lights. Really don't want down lights.
