Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Oct 12, 2014 5:41 pm Deciding on a tile concept for new house, living & kitchen + bathrooms. Would like some opinions on sizing and peoples preference on the colours selected so far. First I should start with my inspiration photos, for an example of the look I am after: Now here are my selections so far: Wall colour, kitchen upper cabinets, kitchen lower cabinets (white): Tough decision between main floor tiles (living + kitchen): one is a limestone bone gloss, the other is a gloss also but bit more grey toned, bit more intrigue of detail through it Here is the darker grey tile in a matte (I will be having gloss though) on a wall of it for a better example Vs. Option 1 on a wall The sizing does come into play.. option 1 can only be 400x400 sizing for the living + kitchen tiles Option 2 I can go upto 450x450 or possible 500x500 I think which is nicer I like bigger the better. Ok onto bathroom tiling concept.... option 1:, mosaic to be used in as a line of 3 only (not as wide as pictured) to run vertically down the shower wall. vs option 2, note the same feature mosaic will be used in either option, main difference is the shower tile colours, bit cooler in this scenario: Here are the samples at home (bathroom option 1) So after all that let me know your thoughts everyone. Im currently pretty divided.. bathroom both options are nice, the swing vote is going to be the flooring tiles weather I go for the warmer colours of option 1 and put up with 400x400 size, or go the slightly darker and go 500x500. What do you think of the colours of the floor tiles chosen, prefer the lighter option 1 or darker option 2? Re: Colour concepts (tiling) opinons 3Oct 13, 2014 7:18 pm I love the 600x600 floor tiles. But don't even think about putting them in your wet area's, tiles hate them when the floor slants to a floor wast. You need to drop back a size for those spaces. I think the bigger size gives a grander more luxury sizing. I can only go upto 500x500 which is fine. As far as bathroom/wet areas (600x600 was never an option and I agree too big), they will likely be 300x600 or whatever the rectangle format generally is so not so big. The photos of my samples for bathroom are current 450x450 which are nice imo (even that vs. 400x400 is a noticeable change in look, read better) Re: Colour concepts (tiling) opinons 5Oct 14, 2014 12:55 pm Yes, go larger than 400x400. It does look really impressive in a living areas, it will make a huge difference to the overall appeal. Same with bathrooms. What are the dimensions of your bathroom? 300x600 rectangles drag your eye further than 450x450 adding to sense of space even in the smallest of bathrooms. You'll notice that most interior designers don't work with small tiles much. Think about the way you want to lay the tiles if you go rectangles in the bathroom. Laying horizontally on the wall or vertically? They do actually look very different. Re: Colour concepts (tiling) opinons 6Oct 14, 2014 7:02 pm Charlston01 Yes, go larger than 400x400. Yeah 300x600 rectangle for the bathroom is what I'm thinking of, not sure if just for vertical walls, wet floors maybe 450x450. Will align the tiles horizontally for the rectangle shaped wet area wall tiles. FYI I am doing charcoal colour wet floor, and then the lighter (beige or silvery grey on the wet walls, shower with the mosaic feature running vertically downwards) Should look nice I hope. I'm going back to tile shop to revisit the colours now that I have my sizes in mind. Re: Colour concepts (tiling) opinons 7Oct 19, 2014 10:58 am An update, have narrowed down my selections. Picked a new main living/kitchen floor tile, importantly in 500x500, this is called Latte colour and its gloss, I think on its own once laid will look fairly suttle, classy, warm. Bathrooms will have, as previously pictured, a charcoal gloss floor tile, skirting and shower walls will be an ivory colour from the same series, both those are 450x450 sizing (happy with). Bathroom feature: Aldelphi interlock mosaic - still not sure how to use this, all I know is I do want it incorporated, currently its been a vertical shower wall strip (row of 3 wide), or leaning towards keeping it out of the shower itself and use it as a splashback horizontally between the mirror and the bathroom sink/bench etc. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Bathroom benches will be Silestone: Yukon http://www.silestoneoceania.com/colours/colour/yukon/ Kitchen benches will be Silestone: Blanco Maple http://www.silestoneoceania.com/colours/colour/blanco-maple/ Bedrooms looking to be charcoal grey carpets. Kitchen cabinets: lower: white gloss, upper cabinetry: formica Cuban wood-gloss http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60163&start=1460 Kitchen splash back: mocha (not really mocha colour) more of a interesting darkish grey with smokey edges - laid in a brickwall format Paint for all walls: [TBA] but something light, thinking a grey but not sure if will work with the creamy tone of my main tiles? Outside (no choice, predetermined by builder) - dark/light grey scheme. Looking to tile the facade pillars rather than rendering. Builder is quoting 2500$ laying cost for upto 10msq. The 2 pillars come to be 16msq. So laying costs are 5000$… 0 7554 Hi, I'm clearing the tiles from our horrid 50 year old bathroom and preparing to lay new ones.
