Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Sep 24, 2014 2:18 pm Hello, Newbie here, as per my into, 1st home buyers, with not much clue Prior to moving in, I want to repaint the whole house! I have absolutely zero clue, on what colours match, look good together etc. So I am after some inspiration. House is 4 bedrooms, and 2 living areas. One living are opens up onto Kitchen / dining. I am trying to include pictures so we can visualize. Master bedroom: http://i4.au.reastatic.net/800x600/a7e360abdf53350b04ada131fe6c61ee8d62207cf31f941eff1a31f180abe80d/image4.jpg I will have a Leather white bed, and bronzie accessories (mirror, side tables etc, chandelier) I am wanting to paint either the ceiling a bronze shade, or one wall....? I think the ceiling is a unique design, so could carry the ceiling colour well. Your thoughts? Furniture will be a white couch, glass curved coffee table, dark rug (i am thinking cow hide) a wood drink trolley, mustard colour stool, and a sidetable of sorts. Are we all visualizing? As this is the family room, I want it fun and funky, but to also relate back to the lounge. What colour would you suggest? Furniture will be a medium grey modular, walnut colour coffee table and side table. Accessories, I am hoping for neon cushions, throw and a funky wall print. I am thinking white or off white for the rest of the house, but I think it will be too bland? Would I also do the skirtings and doors in the same colour? Just to give you too much detail, kitchen table etc, is walnut colour too. Sorry for my long post, but I really need some inspiration (direction LOL) I should also add, the kitchen and tiles will be replaced but not for a few years 1st Home Buyer Kristie AKA Krash Re: Help me paint my house 2Sep 24, 2014 6:02 pm Looks like quite a blank canvas to work with. Personally i'd be doing everything at the same time. Kitchen and floor (tiles) is screaming out for an update. That wall air con is also a dated look. Carpet seems to be in good condition. Re: Help me paint my house 3Sep 24, 2014 7:10 pm Carpet is brand new kitchen / tiles need to wait until funds permit. I will paint the kitchen cupboards, and change the door handles, a full update will need to wait though. Thanks for your response. Moo 1st Home Buyer Kristie AKA Krash Re: Help me paint my house 4Sep 24, 2014 7:13 pm Just looked over your post, photos as well. You need a "Scope of Works" done. This requires some time spent with you getting the finer points sorted and making the "Works" flow with the renovation down the track - kitchen and tiles. If you willy nilly around you may make mistakes and your home may not "flow" Please do not consider a copper colour for your ceiling in your bedroom, looks like 8ft hight ceilings. So not high enough to do such a bold colour, a feature wall would be the way to go behind your bed. (although, there IS an aircon on that wall!) Tricky.... How do I get a scope of works done? Is that through an interior decorator? Thanks Moo 1st Home Buyer Kristie AKA Krash Re: Help me paint my house 6Sep 25, 2014 6:09 am Hi Moo, Yes call in a decorator to help you piece it all together. The tricky bits are making what happens now work with what you do down the track. Knowing that we all change our minds so often It all needs to be on paper for you so you can progress with confidence about your next move from room to room knowing it will all flow and complement each other. Call someone local....if you can't find a decorator, email me for a quote, I can do it for you. I would stay away from painting the ceiling any colour other than white (Generally Builders White), bronze (or any bold colour for that matter) closes the space in and will make the room look allot smaller. I would definately just stick to walls for the feature colours and play with the walls that are a little bit differently shaped, this gives them a point of difference. As for the doors and frames, my personal preferance would be stick to the white (Builders White is the least likely to fade and yellow over time). Once you have updated the kitchen it will look like a while new house!! Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7077 Thank you. That is really helpful. Once we get the place done and passed for OC we can upgrade in the future once we get back on our feet and not paying mortgage and rent. 4 5701 DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Hi there, I just recently received my new house from my builder.
