Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Sep 15, 2014 1:29 pm There are so many laminates to select from and would like to hear the guidelines I should be following when selecting them for a new build. I would like to know whether I should try to use the same laminate colour in the kitchen, laundry and bathrooms, or should they be different but in the same tonal family? Should we stick to one timber look colour and a plain colour for the other? Also, are there rules relating to the finishes? Should it be gloss in the bathrooms and laundry? Some like a uniform theme throughout the home, some like to experiment with different options in different rooms. We have our bathroom and ensuite the same, different in the laundry and different again in the kitchen. But used the same tiles throughout bathroom, ensuite and laundry to tie them together a bit. Its really up to you! I'd decide on the tiles you want for the bathrooms and laundry and work from there. Kitchen, maybe pick your benchtop and see what fits with that - also take into account what main flooring type you'll have throughout the house - your kitchen laminate will need to tie into that. Quick point here....DO NOT lay Laminate in your bathroom or laundry. If you want a wood look in these spaces go for a glue down vinyl plank. Personally I like a uniformed look throughout a home. Its quite off putting moving through a home with lots of different flooring. - Use the same laminate in all heavy areas, - Tiles in the wet areas - Carpet in the bedrooms and lounge/theatre Make sure all flooring complements each other and their surroundings with colour. What are your thoughts on dark timber look laminates like Laminex Burnished Wood, Espresso Ligna, Licorice Linea and Smoky Sapelle in the Nuance and Riven finishes? Do you think the dark laminates will date quickly? I think if used correctly they can look smart but hesitant to use them everywhere as we have dark grey tiled floors and may make the home feel too dark. Dark flooring no matter what it is will show everything! Meaning you will be cleaning more often, I'd go a mid dark. Whilst dark is in now, its on its way back out again.....
