Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Sep 08, 2014 11:31 am We are getting new floors put in on Thursday, so over the weekend rushed to prep and paint our kitchen and family room. We painted White on White, with a standard ceiling trade paint. The ceiling is terrible, because against the white on white it looks too beige. The white on white, which we though we liked, came up looking baby blue! Because we were stupid, we didn't get sample pots, so I will get some at lunchtime today so I can repaint tonight (I foresee a few sleepless nights coming up to get this done before Thursday...) Question is though, what colour do we pick? Initially I liked Lexicon but the Mrs said it was too dark. I read on here that Lexicon looks very white, without being white (if that makes sense). Is there risk of Lexicon also looking blue? Would repainting the ceiling something like Vivid White help take away the blue tinge from the white on white wall or just add to it? We are open to repainting everything if need be. We are getting grey floors and have wood cupboards in the kitchen, if that matters. BTW, we were looking for a cool white walls with, if anything, grey undertones. Didn't want blue! The ceiling we had hoped for just a very bright white. Cheers! Re: Just painted - hate the colour! 2Sep 08, 2014 12:18 pm Have you considered painting the ceiling white on white? I met with some designers last week who said this is what they do, as standard ceiling paint looks awful against white on white walls. Re: Just painted - hate the colour! 3Sep 08, 2014 12:26 pm trixee standard ceiling paint looks awful against white on white walls. Certainly does! We were thinking of trying this. Would something like Vivid White look good, or would that come out creme as well? Re: Just painted - hate the colour! 4Sep 08, 2014 5:16 pm My friends Lexicon looks pale blue. In my dad's house it just looks white. Re: Just painted - hate the colour! 6Sep 08, 2014 5:29 pm Here is an interesting post on Lexicon. http://m.essentialbaby.com.au/forums/in ... x-lexicon/ I went with white Duck which can look a little grey, but not blue. I also have white on white ceilings. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Just painted - hate the colour! 7Sep 08, 2014 6:38 pm Bear in mind that I'm no designer, I'm just a bit of a geek. But if you analyze the RGB values, Vivid White is a warmer white (i.e. has more red in it) than White on White (which has more blue in it). So my suspicion is that Vivid White would also look dirty against White on White. Lexicon has equal amounts of blue and green, with less red, so I think it might be a cooler white than either Vivid White or White on White. White Duck has more red in it than either blue or green, and is therefore a lot warmer in comparison. Re: Just painted - hate the colour! 8Sep 08, 2014 8:16 pm I'm lost with the whole thread, in a hurry to do other things.... so here it is. Lexicon full - has a blue base and you see the blue. White Duck has a green base and you see the green.... Yes vivid white will throw a hint of blue. Step back and visualize your rooms with all their furniture in them. Furniture = colours Accessories = more colours Unless you have a trained eye like mine, more than likely you are not going to see the tints in your paints with everything else going on in the rooms. We ended with lexicon quarter walls with vivid white ceiling - was a late night but we are very happy now! The walls look like what we thought they would with White on White. Trixee, your comment about RGB values was great! We definitely do not have trained eyes, so we pretty much based our decision around the fact Lexicon Quarter was more 'even' than White on White with less focus on blue. Expensive and time consuming mistake to make for the sake of a shade difference in paint. We always find a way to do things the hard way... Michelle Unless you have a trained eye like mine, more than likely you are not going to see the tints in your paints with everything else going on in the rooms. Good to hear! Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7170 Hi - thanks for your reply.
