Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Sep 07, 2014 9:09 pm So we moved into our house a few months ago and I am finding our front entry hallway to be very empty. It is pretty long I am just not sure how best to use this space. This is it now: I have thought about maybe adding one of these Hemnes shoe cabinets from IKEA between the front door and the garage door: In white, with two photos above (not the shelf though). Do you think this is enough? Does it need some colour maybe? Any help would be great, thanks! Re: Help with Front Entry Hallway 2Sep 07, 2014 9:26 pm The long uninterrupted wall really needs something but I wouldn't go the cabinet unless you need the cabinet. If so, then it is a nice narrow choice. I think a runner and a wall of photographs and/or artwork would really make it special. Do you need a spot to dump keys and stuff? if so maybe the cabinet will be functional. I think the wall could pull off a really large artwork too. And definitely some colour would work well. Is that a down light or a batton? Maybe a pendant could add something special too. Would love to see photos of your choices in the end. They can take up a heap of room and really be a waste of space ... We planned to have as little hallway as possible - and foyer. I've seen houses with a foyer as big as a good sized bedroom. Also with long hall ways - up and down. Yet some of the rooms are small. You can waste quite a bit of space this way. But - you have to deal with what you have. A mirror perhaps, and some of those long rectangular 3 piece hangings - vertical. Like canvas paintings. They can lighten a hall and also be very nice to look at. I like cabinet - but walking space is vital - you must have the right room to walk by it without a problem - eg kids rushing in and knocking it ... One idea - perhaps a hat/coat rack inside door - for those cold, wet, dark nights ... and guests not trampling into the house all wet and dripping. Re: Help with Front Entry Hallway 7Sep 11, 2014 3:29 pm What floor is that? Floating or vinyl?? I wouldnt overfill it because (in my opinion) hallways can very quickly become cluttered. I think putting something on that one wall would change the whole feel of it and be inviting. Re: Help with Front Entry Hallway 9Oct 18, 2014 8:15 pm Thanks for the advice everyone. Somewhere to dump keys would be handy, but we also a 'nook' at the end of the hall so we could maybe put a cabinet/table in there for that, then leave the wall for some artwork so it doesn't become too cluttered. Will have a play around once we get a cabinet. Michelle, I know it is a bit late but the flooring is vinyl, we didn't want to go the floating floor option after hearing some bad reviews from friends and family. Re: Help with Front Entry Hallway 10Nov 03, 2014 1:36 pm I was going to suggest hemnes shoe cabinet on wall across from garage entrance and perhaps a framed mirror or framed photo above it. Add a plant and a bowl to chuck keys etc. I have hemnes cabinet in my entry - its nice and narrow I think a nice large artwork on wall opposite front door. Apparently bad feng shui to have mirror opposite a front door Could you add a feature light? Maybe change mats to something printed or coloured to add colour there or a hall runner rug Might cheaper to changer your idea of what makes a home, have you considered building a porch? 2 49341 at most it will have a short lintel which could be moved up just below the ceiling or even above.
