Re: Natural stone fireplace 7Nov 10, 2014 11:38 am Even with using the thinner stone ( and depending on how wide and how tall the total fireplace is going to be ) you may still end up increasing the weight on the floor of 200kg + just for the stonework. Add 50-70kg for the steel gas log fire frame and you're looking at close to 300kg extra weight. I'd be looking at another bearer supported by a couple of piers under that area. It would be pretty easy to work out all the weight involved just by calculating the sq/m of stone x the weight per sq m then add the framing and the weight of the fireplace.
