Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 28, 2008 8:26 pm I thought Ihad this fiugured out, but now I am having doubts, so I'm hoping you can all help me out.
We are in established home and are looking at replacing our carpert with timber floating floors, my question is what colour should I go for? We have cream drapes, our couch is burgundy with golden flowers(sort of flowers not sure what you call them) and our dinning table is a darkish timber with chairs covered in the same material as the couch. I had chosen Sydney Blue gum for the floor, but now I m starting to think it is very simalar colour to the furniture and it might look too dark altogether and close up the room. Can you please, please give your advice on what colouring would suit best with our current furniture. I have added an attachment howing the sydney blue gum colour and also other colors available. http://www.mym.com.au/timberflooring_co ... neybluegum Thanks Re: FLOOR COLOUR 2May 28, 2008 8:37 pm Cmt….that’s a great link isn’t it I found it while back, good for getting ideas on floor colours.
What colour have you chosen for your walls? This is the main thing, if your walls are light, your Blue Gum will work. I tried that link, but itwouldn't open, I'll have to try again later, as I'd like to see waht's on there! Apparently 'Blackbutt' is very in vogue with the designers at the minute - that's my DH's fave! Re: FLOOR COLOUR 4May 28, 2008 9:46 pm Michelle,
On our walls we have a very, very light pinkish colour. I am thinking now that the we should go for a clouring like the Tallowwoood or Brushbox, it's open plan living and dining room and we don't what the room to look smaller due to the dark flooring. What would you advise?? Re: FLOOR COLOUR 5May 28, 2008 9:51 pm I like the Tallowwoood….you don’t have a photo of the room and furniture do you? Here is another web site which has more choices of colour if you want to have a look at the Enginnered Flooring range. http://www.masterplus.com.au/gallerypreview.asp Re: FLOOR COLOUR 9May 29, 2008 7:07 pm I’m really leaning towards the Turpentine for your flooring, on the first website.
Your furniture is quite dark…..I think the Turpentine will help off set this. Get some samples, and put them next to your furniture….I (spit) on the raw wood to see how it will look when finished! That’s a lot of wood for you to spit on…..so perhaps just wet it down with a cloth, to see how it will come up when finished. Let your furniture stand alone, and also your floor! Therefore making each item a piece of their own….does that make sense? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: FLOOR COLOUR 12May 29, 2008 9:01 pm Michelle,
Don't mean to be a pain, but the range I am looking at doen't have Turpetine, so on the link below if I was to go for Jatoba or Nyatoh how would that look do you think? http://www.timberfloorcentre.com.au/pro ... ating.html Thanks again! Re: FLOOR COLOUR 13May 29, 2008 9:12 pm Then I would go the Jatoba Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: FLOOR COLOUR 14May 30, 2008 12:48 pm Thanks Michelle,
what's your opion opinion on the Sydney blue gum with our furniture?....too dark? http://www.mym.com.au/timberflooring_co ... neybluegum Re: FLOOR COLOUR 15May 30, 2008 5:23 pm I love the Blue Gum; it has a mix of warm colours through it.
Its hard to tell from your photos, but your furniture looks quite dark, If you like the Blue Gum….make sure to get some cream or beige rugs for the floor. This will help lighten it all up and keep your timber furniture separate to the timber floor. It also helps to soften the look, and protect the floor. Michelle, does dark flooring like the Jarrah make the room look smaller? I've alway love Jarrah because i like that red/brown colour, but maybe Jarrah is too dark. Would you suggest another timber flooring? thanks. Re: FLOOR COLOUR 17Jun 13, 2008 5:21 pm It really does depend on the natural lighting coming into the room, and the size of the room. What colour you paint on your walls will make a difference as well.
If the walls are light and bright, it shouldn’t mater what colour the timber is, as well as the amount of lighting. Or at least that's how I've read it.

We are planning on having near white walls so that should be alright. But i was planning on having choc/mocca coloured feature walls throughout the house. Also, should we have the kitchen cubboards white as the floor will be dark timber? I'm not a big fan of white kitchens, but i would rather that than put choc cubboards and make the whole living area dark. what are your opinions? thanks again Re: FLOOR COLOUR 20Jun 16, 2008 10:44 am How about you do the floor cupboards in the white then do your overheads (if you have) any in a chocolate laminate.
