Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jun 03, 2014 11:16 am Hi there! We are currently in the middle of a build and really need some suggestions for furniture colours and styles to match our floors. We have chosen a lot of neutral colours for walls and kitchen - whites, greys etc. and my biggest issue is not wanting everything to look 'washed out'. What colour furniture would you suggest to suit our choice of floors in particular? Do you have a suggestion of stores to purchase it from eg. Freedom etc? Our floors are 'Anthracite' bolero timber which is a rustic looking light grey. We are lucky enough to be able to purchase an entire house of new furniture so really keen to get it right! Thanks Re: Help choose furniture to suit new house 2Jun 03, 2014 1:13 pm This is a rather vague question! What kind of styles of furnishing do you like? Minimalism, traditional, funky?? Why not get a few Home Beautiful or House and Garden magazines to get some ideas of what style you like? Also, you often get a good idea of what style you like by going to different shops e.g. Freedom, Far Pavilions, Domayne all sell rather different styles of furniture. Of course you could also get an interior designed to help if you're flush! Work with different textures in that same colour palette... often texture can add a bit of "something" when working with a neutral scheme. Again, it really depends on your style and what you like - but by staying as neutral as you have mentioned, you havent got that many limitations really. I'd check out some magazines, Houzz or Pinterest online and get a feel for a look and work from there. Bright cushions. Interesting, vivid pictures. An off-beat rug or two. This strategy has the advantage that you can change it over for relatively little expense for a different season, mood or just because you don't like X feature colour anymore! But regardless of where you buy the furniture, make sure -you- find it comfortable. You'll be spending a lot of time with it; looks can come and go but comfort (or lack of it) is a memory that will last. Land settled May '14. Love this advice - thanks @deluxes Thanks @dragonchild - love colours so will certainly play with this. Anthony Firstly, wow you have put a lot of work into your list of questions! Great job and they are mostly valid questions that a builder should be able to answer.
