Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 26, 2008 12:42 pm Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can help with some colours for our kitchen. We have our tile selection next week and my head is swelling with ideas but i am absolutely hopeless with colours! kitchen benchtop- Quantum quartz New Diamond Cupboard doors and cabinets- Laminate Wenge with soft bevel edge Kitchen walkin pantry door- Taubman whisper white kickboard- black hardware/ taps- chrome handles- brushed nickel, straight type wall colour- Ocean Pebble (Not sure company) Any advice on kitchen splashback colour? We are also thinking of tiling the whole ground floor. My husband likes 60 x 60 light grey matt tiles but I am not sure if it will match the dark kitchen cabinet colour?? What about a light chocolate brown colour? Any ideas greatly appreciated. Re: Confused with colours 2May 26, 2008 1:05 pm sammy wall colour- Ocean Pebble (Not sure company)Any ideas greatly appreciated. If you’re not sure of the company….Then roughly what colour is it??? I’ll try and get to your colours tonight, I have a throat infection at the moment, and I’m not feeling very well. It's like Latte/ milky coffee colour. Re: Confused with colours 4May 26, 2008 6:41 pm Sammy, I’d stay away from the grey tiles, you have nothing in your chosen selections to go with them. I think I light beigy colour will look better.
Remember the Wenge colour is quite dark, so you need to have a softer floor colour or your kitchen could look very dark? Splash backs – I would lean towards a colour to complement the Quantum quartz New Diamond. Remembering again, that the Wenge is dark so you will need to stay fairly light on the splashbacks. Possibly a very soft latté tile? This should complement your wall colour as well. I just have to convince my hubby. Hope you get better! Re: Confused with colours 10May 27, 2008 2:39 pm If you want to keep it light, maybe you could just go for white Starfire glass (where they remove the natural green tint of the glass, so it is actually white) - that would look nice against the white QQ and wenge cabinetry.Good luck - it's so hard when you know it's something that's so permanent, and in such a prominent part of the house, isn't it??!! Re: Confused with colours 11May 27, 2008 2:48 pm Did I miss something??
I’m so sorry, I thought the splash backs were gong to be tiles! That’s why I said a latte colour in tiles……. SORRY!!! Well, Latte colour for your painted splash back. Darker than your walls. but i am going for tiles as splashback- will do glass after handover. I am starting to regret choosing Wenge cabinets. It seems that lighter colour would have been easier. It's just that I was hoping for something different. Thanks for all your input. Re: Confused with colours 13May 27, 2008 5:26 pm Oops, sorry, I thought you had asked about a glass splashback (LOL, maybe it's on the brain, as that's what I'm having!) Don't regret the wenge - it's beautiful, I'm sure you'll find something - probably when you're not looking - that will match your taste and the cabinetry perfectly ! By the way Sammy…..why are you putting up tiles as your splashback, only to take them off again after handover???? Why spend that money? Do you know what happens to the plaster when you take tiles off the wall???? NOT NICE!!!!! Not a look you will want behind a glass splashback! Mish is right - I had to get the wall replastered after taking the tiles off. Paula Re: Confused with colours 17May 27, 2008 6:12 pm When we took ours off doing a reno…..I could not believe the mess and dirty big holes in the plaster! Luckily I was replacing the tiles, and we just tiled over the holes!
But the new tiles were smaller than the old tiles, so I had to get some rolled marble feature tiles to cover up the EXTRA bits the tiles missed. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Confused with colours 18May 28, 2008 12:06 pm I only learned about glass splashback from this forum, by that time it is too late to change without paying penalty from builder. I have read that you can put glass splashback directly onto tiles? Am i wrong? Anyway, it is not in our budget at the moment. If we don't end up doing it, i will still be happy with tiles.
It is quite surprising, my hubby don't care what colour i choose except for the floor tiles!! Must be a guy thing Re: Confused with colours 19May 28, 2008 2:53 pm Michelle sammy thanks Petal, For a moment there I thought you had come up with a nice little nickname for me!!!!!!!!!!!! ....yes, I did think it sounded a bit like that, but my hubby is very cautious about not using real names on the internet , so I just use that..which is kind of our names... Re: Confused with colours 20May 28, 2008 2:58 pm Hi Sammy - you definitely can put the glass over the tiles, because we did that in the place we've just demolished. We happened to gt a glass door for free that fit perfectly, so I just painted the '70s tiles and the glass with special paint, and one of the kinder dads was a glazier, so he put it on for us. I don't know that this is the preferred method, though. We only did it b/c it cost us $50, and we knew it would only be for a few years. Mind you, it looked fantastic, you would never have known!!! Maybe it's worth just paying the penalty and getting the glass now. Otherwise, go for a light, plain, CHEAP tile!!! If this is a custom build then I would expect the builder to set out the door frame closer to the wall to avoid the gap between architrave and the wall and or specify… 9 8306 Hey.
