Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Apr 20, 2014 8:48 pm We are halfway thru a renovation of old stables in the backyard. I am confused as to what to do about the red tongue chipboard flooring we have had laid down. I think there are 3 options 1. Leave the floor as is 2. Paint the floor 3. Sand and stain and varnish the floor. The room will be essentially a multi-purpose play room for the kids (age 4 years and 1 year) and mum and dad. The space is roughly 4 by 4metres and we have 2 sets of exterior doors leading onto a deck. I imagine the kids will do a bit of painting in there but i don't expect there will be heaps of water spilt. If I go with #2 or #3 do you think a white floor would look good with the deck? or would I be better off going with a dark floor? Re: Should I "finish" Red tongue flooring? 2Apr 21, 2014 6:12 am Option 3 is the best way to go, but..... *Sand *3 coats of Polyurethane Really hard wearing, and you wont have to paint again for some time. Unlike if you go down the track of putting a colour/paint on the floor. I do want something reasonably hard wearing. But I just don't think I've got the time to do the sanding and 3 coats at the moment. Plus I think I'd prefer colour on the floor. What if I painted and then did a coat of polyurethane? Would that look OK and would it last OK? Re: Should I "finish" Red tongue flooring? 4Apr 21, 2014 7:04 pm I agree with Michelle. However, if you do decide to paint, I wouldn't do white.... especially not with kids. That would look great for the first 5 minutes, then look dirty after that. White floors show everything. Re: Should I "finish" Red tongue flooring? 5Apr 21, 2014 10:41 pm I've had a bit of a read on the internet and it seems that general recommendation when painting a floor is to: 1. Sand 2. Use exterior grade paint or for extra durability use an oil based enamel 3. Paint over with oil based polyuethane clear coat. So although I did not want to sand it seems that this system might give durability. I was thinking of a grey floor and I might add some colour to it with kids stickers. Would a grey such as "bushland grey" look OK going on to a deck? I have read that "light french gray" is nice and a little lighter. Hi guys, I want to do some floor levelling before laying the planks and am considering doing it with self-levelling or yellow tongue PB board. I am wondering which one… 0 6538 I’m restoring all my 40yr old windows and I want to install seals around the casements. I’ve sanded back and oiled the frames with sikkens. My plan is to box up inside… 0 6513 Hi, did you get any money from insurance? if you did, does it match what you've already paid the builders? 3 9565 |
