Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Mar 05, 2014 10:19 pm We are having dune windows and a colourbond monument front door (to tie in with our monument gutters/ dark roof tiles etc). We were on site the other day and noticed that they have installed a dune door frame. I queried it and apparently they class the door frame as a window so it will be staying dune. When we were selecting door colours we were not informed that whatever we chose, the frame would remain dune like the windows. I think its going to look really, really awful. Does anyone have any examples of a door coloured different to the frame that they can show me to make me feel better? I'm so cross that it wasn't raised with us at selections, and I'm even cross that its an aluminium door frame, Its going to be so much harder to ever change the colour down the track. Any ideas on what we can do? I did notice the frame for the front door is already damaged. Do you think if they had to replace it anyway that they might replace it with something different? Not likely is it Re: Is this going to be as terrible as I think? 2Mar 06, 2014 1:43 pm who classes a door frame as a window? As a builder, I class this as a poor way to cover up an error. I'm not sure if its worth fighting them on this, or if I should save my energy for the stuff ups that will likely happen from here on in. We've found a ton of defects in the frame already... There will be quite a lot of tonal difference, but no more than if you were using the Monument as a feature wall colour. If you don't like it, paint it when you move in. Probably your only solution here. Our front door has sidelights either side and so the frame for those and the frame for the front door will be white. We have a window beside the front door and it's frame will also be white. I think it will look okay because our orange is actually a real out there colour it's meant to be a feature. I don't actually think a monument door will dune frames will look bad if you have dune frames everywhere else. I think it makes sense. But what is your render/brick colour going to be? Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Is this going to be as terrible as I think? 10Mar 07, 2014 8:31 pm There aren't any sidelights, its just the door itself. The bricks are austral fawn, and we'll be rendering the portico ourselves so are going to wait and choose the colour once they've finished bricking so we can see what might look best, but we're thinking something light (we have a surfmist garage and fascia - maybe a 200% surfmist??) Gosh its a dogs breakfast! I did want a nice bright green front door, so this might be my opportunity to get my own way - trying to think positive! I've been on the phone to consumer affairs about the builder today again (an issue unrelated to the door) so even just thinking positive is a battle at the moment! If the door has sidelights/glass inserts....its will be classed as a window. Michelle, I don't believe that is correct. If the door has sidelites, it is just a door that has sidelites. Having worked my entire life in the building industry with a stint at a national window company, i can assure you that with or without sidelites, it is still a door frame. The builder may have decided to classify it differently but in my experience, they simply made an error they do not want to acknowledge. Staceyd, do you have a copy of your colour selection sheet? this should mention a colour for the door and door frame. if not, there is nothing suspicious going on, it is likely that your builder just does things this way. if however there is a section for it and what you got was nit right, they have made an error and you are entitled to have it rectified. Who knows......in my experience a lot of builders work differently to the next. The lighter frame colour, IMHO, will make the door really "pop". If in the future you want a security/screen door to allow the air in (very practical), then the frame of that door will conceal whatever you have behind it anyway. Re: Is this going to be as terrible as I think? 16Mar 12, 2014 11:49 am The first thing i did was check my selections document, there is no mention of the door frame at all, and there is no mention of it being aluminium in the specifications in the contract either. I'm pretty bummed about it, it would have taken 30 seconds and one sentence to avoid any misunderstanding when we were doing selections. From this thread alone it seems there is no set standard way to do it, so they should have clarified that when picking window frames, the same colour would apply to the door frames too. I've been eyeballing every house I drive past to see what colour the door frames and door are and its not seeming like a common thing to have them so different at all. But, like I previously mentioned, we have bigger fish to fry. They are claiming the frame has passed inspection from a building surveyor when there are some glaring defects. We've got our inspector running through tomorrow, but I'm not filled with confidence that they're going to come to the party and rectify it all. So I'll just try and relax about the door frame (I'm was already regretting the dune for windows, now I regret it more that its for the doors too) seeing as its just cosmetic and focus on the structural integrity (or lack thereof) of the house itself. GAH! Re: Is this going to be as terrible as I think? 17Mar 12, 2014 8:30 pm Sounds like your having a tough time..... sorry to hear.
