Advice for bedroom design

Hey all,
We have just spent a heap renovation our bedrooms, I have been looking at different sites to find decorating tips but I am wondering if you can add anything to this list?

We spend so much time, effort and money on the actual structure I want to make sure the finishing touches are just a good at the moment its just a blank space.
Cheers.
For me, my main goal is low maintenance. Therefore, I would try to have study desks custom built and suspended off the wall (to enable easy vacuuming). BIR's need to go up to ceiling so that I won't have to climb up on a chair every few months removing dust. Beds on rollers to vacuum under bed and built in headrest on the wall. I think that's my list

Once the low maintenance factors are ticked off, then colours, styles, etc come into play.
Yea definitely agree with the built in robes going to the ceiling!
I want my bedroom to be not just somewhere I sleep but a place I never want to leave, soft, cosy and cuddly. So if you have the room for it I would add a chair, rug, beautiful floor lamp, bedside table lamps, art and create vignettes on surfaces with books, flowers and tea light candles etc.

In terms of colours I would say pick one that relaxes you. If you paint your walls with a busy colour like yellow, it will be too busy.
Hi, if anyone would like to make any suggestions in regards to colours that l could use in our soon to be built new home, our master bedroom has a feature wall painted" African" which is a rick deep brown, I'm thinking burnt orange, but I think I'm going to struggle finding a nice doona set to compliment the rich brown, just to explain ,we picked this colour during colours quite a few weeks ago, we really like the warmth, it gives out
I have a large serigraph print which I may put above our bed ,any ideas much appreciated,
To give the room a more open feel, ensure beds have low foot ends.
Upholstered beds are in at the moment but my suggestion is a dark colour for the bed head as oil from your head can discolour. Plain bed linen is better with patterns kept to the cushions.
White sheets are crisp & fresh always.
A good rule of thumb is keeping the wall space 1/3 below any stand alone wall art or mirror & 2/3 above if putting above a bedhead.

Hi SS could you explain this tip a little more? I don't understand what you mean by "keeping wall space 1/3 below".
OK, so measure the entire wall above the bedhead.
Takeaway the height of the picture, then divide by three.
That is a good distance from the top of your bed head to the bottom of your picture.
That should leave a space twice that height from the ceiling to the top of the print.

It's a nice balance & a good rule of thumb but doesn't obviously work with some large pictures or long thin landscapes etc. I also reverse the rule when hanging prints around the house, one third above two thirds below.
I came across a US-based website called Houzz and subscribe to their regular online newsletters. The articles and the photos and case-studies are so inspiring you won't know where to start! It is frustrating some of the products are not available here, but definitely worth a look for all sorts of decorating ideas.

Awesome tip thanks!

Hang on..... but wouldn't it rely on the height of your ceiling when it comes to general art hanging? I've heard that it should be eye level but according to the rule of thumb above the painting would be higher if you had high ceilings.... hmmmm interesting.
OR.....eye level.
Eye level is obviously good but if you want to hang artwork above a high piece fo furniture, eye level just won't work. Many bedheads are quite high at the moment so artwork does end up higher than eye level.
True serialstyler, but if the bed head is that high I'd probably NOT put artwork above it but beside it.
If there was room on the wall.
I hadn't even thought of that! G recieved an excellent paitning from his mum for his birthday that I have always pictured above our bed when we move. It didn't occur to me to look at the spacing...
