Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 18, 2008 7:08 pm As the title says I'm looking for an online site showing the various wood colour stains wattyl do. ATM I'm interested in checking out the "dark walnut", and "new maple" and also any jarrah stain type colours. We will need to have our front wood veneer door stained and I want the internal wooden caps which will not be real jarrah, to match the front door colour. Our biggest concern is that some of the "jarrah" colour stains look very orange and we were trying to go for more of a red brown than orange tone. In our last house we had real jarrah capping in the house and it was more a warm orange/red than orange. We wanted the same look again.
We will be heading off to B.....ings or one of the other hardware stores next weekend to check them out for real but would love to get some idea before then. I know there is a walnut and a mahogony one from a few googles but thats it. Re: wattyl stain colours 4May 19, 2008 7:29 pm In all honesty I think you need to go to a paint store and see the stains in real life.
Looking on the net may not give you an exact colour. They vary so much from the colours you see on screen. Also, look at Feast Watson and Porters ranges. I think they have more choice.
Judie Re: wattyl stain colours 6May 19, 2008 8:33 pm hi thanks for the comments. Yes we are hoping to dash in on Wednesday and see the colours. Otherwise it will be Saturday. I would imagine they'll have to be wattyl colours since thats what the builders painter uses and what all our other elections have to be.
I would like to have th same colour on the internal cappings ( all 3) as the front door. Re: wattyl stain colours 7May 20, 2008 7:14 pm Dashed into the local hardware store near work this afternoon and have come home armed with a few brochures on wattyl stains and on the timber we think the builder is planning on using. "merbau" which looks very dark. I've yet to see a real piece of it though. Until we get more chance to check out the colours it looks like we'll be going either the "new maple" or the "dark mahogany" colour stain. The young guy suggested we ring wattyl and ask for their advice if we didn't want to buy a timber sample and 2 x stain-varnishes. We'll investigate further. UNfortuntely it is unlikely that the veneer supplied on the front door is likely to be anything like the merbau colour so even using the same stain we'll likely get a different effect from inside the house. May have to investigate having 2 differing stains we think. Re: wattyl stain colours 8May 20, 2008 7:24 pm Thanks for the update kexkez…..10 points for doing your homework!!!!
It pays off. I like "merbau" it’s a nice colour! Why not just estapol the timber?
