Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jul 23, 2013 10:50 pm Is having one colour for the walls, roof, architraves, doors just not a done thing? Is there a reason? I was thinking a white, maybe Dulux Natural White but I haven't seen a sample, and then adding colour with features walls. Most people I mention it to are saying no but then dont really have a reason for it. Re: One colour for walls, roof, architraves, doors? 3Jul 24, 2013 1:03 am We have Dulux Beige Royal Quarter on all walls, skirtings, doors and architraves. Dulux Natural White on ceiling. The same colour on walls and woodwork gives a subtle shade/light difference because timber is gloss paint - we like the continuity against the odd feature wall colour. Part of me wonders if I'm just being lazy given this is the second build in 4 years. What I want to avoid is a white kitchen with yellow walls around it. I want white, white, white. This would mean the open plan family and dining would be the same white white white unless I added a feature wall. I figure if you're using white walls the only other option for trims and the roof is a "different" white and what's the point? I plan to paint the lounge room a darker colour after handover so the Natural White would end up being only the trim colour in that room. Re: One colour for walls, roof, architraves, doors? 5Jul 25, 2013 12:50 am We are building white on white. We are having the doors, windows and ceiling all square set, so everything will be one colour (white). Our kitchen again will be white with a black stone top and a grey (maybe, yet to decide) splashback. Last home I build I did the two tone thing, but most modern homes seem to be all one colour now. We want it to look clean and simple and hopefully not date too quickly, we figure we can add color with accessories. Re: One colour for walls, roof, architraves, doors? 7Jul 30, 2013 10:23 am We are having all on colour, I wanted my white to look white so no contrasting white for me. We have chosen solver smoke pearl Re: One colour for walls, roof, architraves, doors? 9Jul 30, 2013 7:00 pm I know people that have done it and it can look great. The ceiling actually doesn't look excatly the same due to light reflections etc. So it won't look like a boring mass of one colour. From memory we used a colour called fair bianca for the walls and all the trim ceiling etc in the same colour but 1/4 strength. Looked great IMO. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: One colour for walls, roof, architraves, doors? 14Aug 27, 2013 12:47 pm Hi, I would paint the walls and ceiling a SLIGHTLY warmer white and then paint all doors and architraves in a high gloss brilliant white. You see the look done in a lot of magazines at the moment and it brings a little glamour to the room. Feature walls I would stay away from unless they are incredibly subtle. They are outdated now. And all over white is ok too, I prefer the high gloss brilliant white architraves and doors because it adds a nicer, richer finish. Re: One colour for walls, roof, architraves, doors? 15Aug 28, 2013 10:05 pm I did my house house right through all the one colour. Semi gloss on walls and ceilings and full gloss on the trims and doors. Works just fine!! Have bookmarked this thread because I want the same thing - ALL WHITE! Thanks for bringing it up Ari! I don't know the names of white yet as I haven't been to a colour appt, and the 1/2 strength 1/4 strength throws me a bit, so can't wait after my appt then compare to the comments here. I am thinking exactly like you - the colours are to come out of accessories, I think blank canvas first! But, I don't want it to look clinical --- Re: One colour for walls, roof, architraves, doors? 19Oct 03, 2013 9:37 am Paula24 Hi Debra I was wondering how your home looked liked using the Beige Royal quarter with Natural white. I look forward hearing form you paula Hi Paula, Over two years later we still love the Beige Royal Qtr - fresh and clean without being too stark. The ceilings in Natural White give just enough contrast. Perhaps if you wanted something a little deeper go for Beige Royal Half but I'd still keep trims in Beige Royal Qtr gloss and Natural White ceiling. Only pictures I have are on blog - construction and finished. Decisions??
