I want to put these 2 ottomans (with chocolate timber) upholstered in a licorice colour, at the foot of our bed. The two timbers appear to be different enough that you're not trying to match them, as opposed to if they were really close in colour and it looks like you'd tried to match and failed!!! What kind of bed is your new one? Assuming it isn't timber as well, I'd go for it. I love those ottomans, and worst case scenario, you could re-stain the legs to match your bedside tables... I popped into my local store yesterday to try them out & they are quite firm, which is what I want when sitting on them.
