Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 13, 2013 5:29 pm I did a quick search online and found a website that was talking about tying in the colours of wall art with your colour scheme. How important is this do you think? We have quite a bit of art from China and other parts of asia, (not huge pieces that would basically take up a whole wall though) but it uses many different colours. We will have a neutral colour scheme inside, but was thinking of using touches of black and blue. The frames are mostly black, but the actual artwork is all kinds of colours. Am I overthinking this? Please help Our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64705 Re: Using wall art in interior design 2May 13, 2013 7:14 pm You need to wait till you have moved in to assess your wall art. Some of your Asian prints may work others may not, but you will need to see them in the rooms to be sure. Its a wait and see...... Do you think it is an intuitive decision? (I like to think I have that quality ) My husband will not let me move things around 100 times like in the house we have just sold, leaving heaps of small holes in all the walls! Went a bit crazy there... Many of the pieces are black, grey and white themed and must say they look a lot better on our current grey walls than they did on the beige walls in the last house. (I like to think I have that quality ) You will either like the artwork or not....that should help. My husband will not let me move things around 100 times like in the house we have just sold, leaving heaps of small holes in all the walls! Went a bit crazy there... You don't hang them in the rooms, you just place them, so you can get the idea where they can or can not go...... Michelle, ah yes, I should have thought of that in the last house I do like many of the pieces, we have good quality paintings and stone ornaments in frames and things, not just cheap prints you buy by the dozen. Our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64705 Re: Using wall art in interior design 7May 21, 2013 3:04 pm I think art is very personal and should always be chosen based on whether you really love it, rather than the colour scheme. That said, I tend to use art as the inspiration for a colour scheme but it doesn't have to be too deliberate. For example I had a client who had an assortment of landscape paintings that we wanted to hang all on one wall. Even though there were lots of colours within the paintings two colours that seemed to feature subtly but often was pale grey-purple and green. We added a few cushions in these colours and now the whole room feels very pulled together, but not too 'designed'. Does that make sense? I definitely agree with Michelle to wait until you're in the house before making too many decisions though! I will definitely wait until we are in there, and then avoid hastily making holes in walls until I am sure of where things will go! Our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64705 Hello!
