Stoopid Splashback!!

Me again....and this stupid splashback colour!

I have my 'safe' colour which I will revert back to if I can't find the PERFECT colour in the mean time and that is Paula's Bleached Bark....

However, I am looking for a splashback colour to go with my all white kitchen and spotted gum floors.

I have come to the conclusion that I can't do red...and everytime I look to something I keep coming back to greys or browns :roll:

We are hoping to use QQ Starlight White benchtop. It is mainly white with grey/silver chips and little flecks of metal in it...

I have been trolling the Dulux site and have come up with these names;
-Living Stone
-Natural Stone
-Stone
-Grey Pebble
- Warm Granite
-Dieaskau

Mind you I am looking at these colours over a computer screen, so will hopefully duck out and get some sample chips in the next few days.

Any advice

Hi Bel,

I went through 3 colours painted from sample pots on the wall before I finally found the one that went with the bench top.

First was too brown, second was too grey, third just right.

The colours even look different on the colour cardsat the shop. I think the best bet is to invest a bit of money in a few sample pots and paint them on A4 sheets then hold them up to the sample QQ top you have.

Thanks Paula - I think that is the best bet too....

It's sooo annoying because I can picture it all in my head, but then I try to get the colours together in rea life and NOPE! :lol:

We will get there!

FWIW do you think the bleached bark would look any different on the clear/blue glass backing instead of the white...when I went to Hopetuon Interiors they seem to think you would only upgrade to the white if you are choosing a light colour...

I had a local glass company (neighbour) put my glass splashback in.....not sure what you mean by blue / white?

All I know is we got the glass without the green tinge in it ie: clear.

My understanding is that they paint the back of the glass with the dulux colour, so by going clear it was a true colour we were getting.

Hey Paula,

Sorry yes I meant did you get it on the white glass or on the glass with the green tinge to it?

When I went to PD interior design studio they mentioned you wouldn't need to upgrade to the white glass unless you were choosing a light coloured splashback eg white, light grey etc as the green tinge will only show through on lighter colours...

Originally we had chosen the Starlight White by QQ, but I have since foudn this is an extra $1000 so I think I'd prefer to go a different shade of white benchtop so am looking at Everest, Ice and New Diamond White.

I also think I have chosen a splashback colour...FINALLY some might say.

It's actually a colour Mich suggested for my front render and I really like it....Dulux Pale Earth

I will get a sample and see how it goes with the benchtop colours

Haywgl - be careful in my experience it does still make a difference using normal compared to starfire glass.

We have a glass splashback in this home and they gave us one piece in stafire and the rest in normal - you can definitely tell the difference. Ours are painted a stainless steel colour.

You wouldn't happen to have a pic fo your splashback would you, stainless steel sounds quite nice

Whats wrong with a more dramatic colour like red?? We also have spotted gum floors and fairly safe colour cupboards and benchtops so went with a more dramatic splash i.e. Murray River Red.

Although now we have our comfort plus windows installed they throw quite a bit of blue so will have to check that the red is still a go once the kitchen is in.

Get some large colour cards and try them out with your selections. The one you keep going back to for a whole week is a winner :wink:

. Also grab different colours such as greens etc. You never know what will take your fancy.

Also we were told not to worry too much about selecting the glass splash colour, until the kitchen and floors are installed so you have a better idea of which colour to choose.

Thanks Dee. I actually really like the Murray Red that you have selected!

Mich has suggested it to me too, and I keep going back to it, I guess I am just scared how it will tie in with the rest of my furniture/colours - I really like earthy tone, warm browns, whites, greens, orange etc...

I'm scared that the red might just look a bit out of place.

It's good to know I can put it off until the flooring etc is in....we will be having the white cupboards, silver bar handles and a grey/white stone bench....maybe I do need something dramatic...

Are glass splashbacks hard to change later on if you get sick of them?

We're having a window so thankfully don't have to make a splashback decision, but if we did I think I'd got for a mirror, I love it.

Mich - I guess it's good to know it can be changed, even if it is expensive....I really want to go the red...I'm just scared it will look strange...if I know it's possible to change it later on (even if it will be expensive) then I am more likely to go for it!

There is actually one on the PD website in the Style Finder - Funky Red...it is a white kitchen with a bright red splashback..looks nice, but I'm hoping the Murray Red would be a bit of a darker red...

Thanks again, I really want to see Dee's go in, so I can see it finished!

Mish, this is a PD display home we looked at last weekend. The top cupboards have perspex inserts and i think it's the shelves you're looking at - they aren't roller blinds...

I don't know...to tell the truth. The glass was about a $1200 upgrade for us, so it can't be much more???? I so want to ask though, they told me they haven't had the splashback measured yet, as the C/S has to go in first, so maybe we can change it i'm not sure????
I've wanted a mirror splashback for ages but Ian wasn't too eager on it, even when we renovated our last house...but after seeing this one, we loved it... I might stick my neck out and ask on Monday.....

If i recall, i think stonecutter is getting the mirror splashback in her kitchen???

Yes see that I like - it's more of a rich red, than a bright red. It looks good with the white too. We wil be having a white/grey speckled QQ bench, but I think that should all tie in well

Ok I'll ask PD how much for the mirror splashback and I'll also set myself for the Murray Red....then I only have to narrow the choice between the two...closer to seeing the house come together..

Mich is that splashback on clear glass or the one with the green tinge?

Personally I think red goes extremely well with warm browns, white, greens and especially orange.

We have a chocolate brown couch and earthy tone everywhere so red will give it a bit of zing. Im looking out my window right now and can see brown tree trunks, green leaves, green fence, white fluffy clouds, blue sky and a bright red flower. Look great IMO. :lol:

Of course anything would look good right now as I'm having a break from packing (again :wink:
