Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Mar 09, 2013 9:29 am Hi Michelle and all, We are about to create a new kitchen in our townhouse and I'd really like some colour advice! We have gloss polished blackbutt flooring, walls are Dulux Grand Piano Half with skirtings same colour. We have rollerblinds on the windows which are a soft natural white colour. We want a white kitchen, and really want to avoid a stark clinical white. We are still debating about the colour of the cabinets and splashback, but are certain we want a soft white that does not throw any yellow. The benchtops will be Ceasarstone 2141 Snow Would like to know your thoughts on cabinet colours and glass splashback colours, obviously we want to compliment our current wall colour, but keep it neutral enough that if we sell at some point in the future that the new owner can change the wall colour without clashing with the kitchen. We quite like Dulux Lexicon Quarter and Dulux Whisper White but are not sure which one would best compliment the walls and/or which one to use as splashback. Happy to also consider suggestions! Help! *2fk* Re: Colour advice for kitchen! 2Mar 09, 2013 9:30 am Saw a place using black and white - looked outstanding. We're going lighter colours, but the b & w did look good. Re: Colour advice for kitchen! 3Mar 09, 2013 2:38 pm We used Frosty White for our cabinets/drawers. It isn't a stark white. I'm very happy with it. It is a wilsonart colour. I have one similar (in my 40 year old kitchen and hate it) and was considering a corner one. One kitchen mob said they don't do them anymore. But the old one has very silly narrow shelves on one side. The new ones are better laid out. Still deciding on layout, drawers etc. Re: Colour advice for kitchen! 6Mar 11, 2013 6:35 am That pantry goes all the way back to the wall the fridge sits on. I'll take a photo tonight for you, I'm off to work soon. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Colour advice for kitchen! 9Mar 12, 2013 5:45 pm Thanks Michelle. Yes my one I have now has a REALLY narrow shelf on the side (useless) and a big fat shelf at the back (that you can't reach the back half). Your layout is much more practical. Re: Colour advice for kitchen! 10Apr 03, 2013 6:40 pm Personally I wouldn't be going all white with the kitchen, not with a glossy blackbutt floor. All-white kitchens look fantastic with a darker timber or bamboo floor. In your case I'd probably run overheads the whole way across in a darker colour or nice textured laminate, perhaps a feature pantry door or wacky stools? I guess it depends on your furniture in that area too. I'd be sticking with neutral on the splashback. Loud colours are gone. Re: Colour advice for kitchen! 11Apr 03, 2013 7:18 pm ^ Regarding the light wooden floors and white kitchen what about this- http://pinterest.com/pin/483011128755627103/ or this http://pinterest.com/pin/483011128755627096/ I think it can look great, as you say depending on the furniture. I love the Polar white, I don't think it is particularly soft though, is it Michelle? It looks quite nice and crisp in your pictures. I find the Formica Snowdrift is not quite to crisp as the Laminex Polar White, I found the Formica Warm white a bit too warm for me.. I chose Polar White as I have a small space and needed to bounce as much light as I could in my kitchen. I also have cement flooring, which I love! Here is my dinning space and feature wall which added a punch to go with the tiled tops. I have ordered a sample of 'white', hopefully it is in between polar white and warm white of laminex. I love that feature wall colour. We have a bit of a blue theme going on. First things first though, ( I will post my kitchen colours soon in the hope you could cast your eye over them! ) Our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64705 Re: Colour advice for kitchen! 14Apr 04, 2013 7:13 pm Believe it or not....that feature wall is a very dark grey, comes off with a hint of blue in photos. But its pushing light black. It is lovely, my parents have an almost black feature wall behind the tv which looks great Our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64705 Re: Colour advice for kitchen! 19Apr 21, 2013 6:50 pm Thanks everyone for the tips, apologies for delay in responding, this kitchen renovation has meant that we have been living in a building site and I haven't been online as much as usual. We ended up choosing cabinets in poly gloss - the colour is Lexicon quarter strength. It actually ties in beautifully with the wall colour which is Grand Piano half. The benchtop will be Caesarstone snow and is going in later this week. Kickboards are mirrored (in pictures they still have the protective plastic on them). Still not sure what colour we are doing the splashback yet. Decisions decisions! Here are some pictures of progress so far.
