Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Mar 06, 2013 3:38 am Hi Everyone So this weekend I was wanting to start painting a feature wall in my bedroom. The only problem is, I have no idea how to go about it or even what colour to go with. I was hoping some of you lovely people could help me out My walls are currently an off white colour, I think it's called Sterling White (it was a sterling homes default colour, yuck) all my bedroom furniture is a dark chocolate brown colour. Does anyone know any colours that would go with this? What kind of paint is best to use? How do I avoid getting any colour on the skirting boards? Will masking tape along them do? Are any large paint brushes good to use or should I use a roller? If someone could help answer those questions for me I would appreciate it so much!! Thank you everyone Re: Feature wall colour help 2Mar 06, 2013 7:55 am I don't know which colour you should use. Are you leaning towards any colour in particular? To avoid getting colour of the skirting boards etc use painting tape (can buy this from a hardware store). These tapes are less likely to ruin your existing paint. Use a brush to paint the outline and then use a roller for the rest. At least, that's what we do. I was actually leaning towards an olive green colour. I think it would go with dark wood furniture Re: Feature wall colour help 4Mar 06, 2013 10:35 am Have you got any pics? every white colour throws off another colour such as cream pink lavender etc. Olive goes really well with dark furniture. So does a beige grey. What colour is your carpet? Obviously grab a few sample cards and see what works. Before you decide to paint a whole room one colour, paint a section up in the corners and in other spots. The see how the colour looks at night with the light on as this may change the look slightly and you might decide on a different tone or whatever. But since this is your first attempt, it really won't matter and you can learn from it. The best thing about paint is you can always paint over mistakes! Re: Feature wall colour help 6Mar 06, 2013 12:21 pm And a bonus thing is if you get a Wattyl paint, they guarantee that if you dont like the colour, they will replace the paint for free. cond apply http://www.loveyourcolour.com.au/ Forrester 43sq We have our keys (3/6/11) Now it's time to decorate (that's the fun part.lol) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=37598 Re: Feature wall colour help 8Mar 07, 2013 10:50 am Hi, I've just used a nice green olive colour. Dulux 'Domain'. There are photos in my thread if you want to check it out. I will post more pics once we have our dark bedroom suite furniture moved in so you have more of a visual what it might look like. Its a colour from America but I asked for it at Bunnings and they made it up with Dulux paint. Its call Baffin Island Grey - dont be put off by the name - it is actually an olive green and would look great with dark wood furniture. good luck! Re: Feature wall colour help 10Mar 14, 2013 10:32 pm Keep in mind you don't want the green the same dark tone as your furniture. Make it a little lighter so that they work together instead of fight and become a sea of darkness

You might need to do some research before you decide. cheers Very true! The wonderful thing about paint though, is its not really scary....and since you're looking to do a feature wall, it'll be easy to repaint if you don't like it Here's dark bedroom furniture with a gorgeous French grey. I took some time picking it out to be sure it's not too brown and not too grey HD Re: Feature wall colour help 16Mar 18, 2013 1:48 pm I plan to do mine a dark red. The way I see it, when you look into the master bedroom, you see the red wall but when you are sleeping and need calming colours, you can't see the feature wall, only the smooth light brown of the rest of the walls. I have that silly sterling colour (swear its pink) and i cant wait to repaint the whole house. I chose a blue tint Grey which is quite dark, sorry i cant remember the colour but was a dulux colour and I have dark wood furniture, white, black & grey linen and it looks increadible its warm with still being modern. Even goes well with our brownish carpets just tied all in together. Sorry Im at work so cant load a photo. Wow I am a lot of help arent i?
