Hey People,
I have been buying furniture from auctions and opp shops that are period style as we are having a period style home built. Cant afford to buy everything brand new plus some of the styles are no longer made unless it is custom made which is dearer all the more. I have been able to buy things like a victorian carver chair, 2 raised back lounge chairs, my current 2x 2 seater couches (not victorian but period style) and a couple of hall stands. The chairs and the couches will need to be upholstered as the fabric looks worn and old and may need a coat of paint/varnish.
With upholstering, can you buy the fabric yourself and just pay for the labour cost or does it not work that way? What are some of the dos' and donts' with upholstering. If any of you have used an upholsterer and would like to recommend then that would be welcome also (from melbourne's west here).
Looking forward to your replies, thanks in advance.
