Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Feb 02, 2013 9:39 am We've chosen Dulux Silkwort for all our internal walls and were going to go a lighter grey tile throughout but when we put the samples together the light grey tile was too washed out. Therefore we decided on charcoal polished porcelain tiles throughout the house. Now I'm concerned that silkwort will be too dark with the dark floors. I don't want it to be too dark inside. My husband keeps saying it will be fine because we're having gloss white trims and an all white kitchen so that will lighten it up, but I'm not sure. Wondering if I should go half or quarter strength in the silkwort instead? My build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65324&p=1032514#p1032514 Re: Please help with paint colour worried walls will be too 4Feb 02, 2013 11:51 am 4walls fyi: dulux Silkwort is not available in half or quarter strength. You could ask for it to be tinted lighter, but that is something I would not recommend doing. Thanks for this letting me know as I didn't realise that. Quote: So this is Silkwort? If you're using this all through your house I would probably go half strength. Yep that's the colour. It looks a fair bit lighter in real life but I'm still wondering if it will make the place look too dark or small with the dark floors and then this on all walls. Any suggestions for other greys for internal walls? Re: Please help with paint colour silkwort or other grey 7Feb 03, 2013 10:12 am Or Grand Piano. I think it's a but more neutral than White Duck, which is a bit more on the beige side. Weird. Someone told us to get Grand Piano instead of White Duck when we were first talking about colours, because it was less beige than white duck. Not so apparently. If you're looking for a light grey you could try Dulux Terrace White or Platinum Class (more of a true grey) or for a warmer option try Ghosting Quarter. All of these options are more grey than White Duck or Beige Royal which are quite warm colours. Two other lovely options are Brume Qtr or Half or Bleaches Qtr or Half. Hope it helps! Hi EthosDesign, Sorry to crash this topic, but I too need help with some colours and it is crunch time! At the moment I have decided on Polytec Melamine "Strata Grey" (in sheen) kitchen. White seems to be everywhere at the moment so thought I should go with something different. I also wanted to paint my home a warm grey but as I am no good with colours I need some advice. I looked at what you advised above and until this point was going to go with White Duck Quarter and Vivid White gloss for architraves/skirtings and internal doors. However I checked out Ghosting quarter and this looks a much warmer grey than White Duck and more grey also. What do you think I should do based on my choices. Very keen and desperate for advice. Many thanks, Re: Please help with paint colour silkwort or other grey 12Feb 07, 2013 12:16 pm Hi TippyToes! White Duck is much warmer in tone than those that I've suggested and I think with your kitchen colour I would go a cooler tone. Ghosting Half is nice but probably still a touch too warm, and Ghosting Qtr is closer to an off-white than a grey. I would look at Bleaches Half or Vanilla Quake Half. I am about to use Vanilla Quake in an apartment I'm working on. It is definately more grey than White Duck but has those brown undertones. I love the fact you've chosen something different for your kitchen by the way - I just did a display home with a similar colour! I will go and get some sample pots tomorrow. What colour does Vanilla Quake throw as I have heard green mentioned? Cheers, Re: Please help with paint colour silkwort or other grey 14Feb 10, 2013 9:24 am Sorry to interrupt, but I was also looking use silkwort in our bedrooms. The standard antique USA white everywhere else (bathrooms will be tiled to ceiling). Would the silkwort be too dark for smaller bedrooms? I'm worried it will make the smaller bedrooms smaller than it already is. The rooms will be brightly lit (4 downlights), wide spotted gum floorboards with white satin skirting, architraves and doors. Yes/no? Re: Please help with paint colour silkwort or other grey 15Feb 16, 2013 10:21 am EthosDesign Silkwort is very light if you use it outside, but inside will be a bit darker. Hi Ethos Design, I have decided to go with Bleaches half in the rooms facing north and Bleaches quarter in the entry and the bathroom/laundry as they face south. I am using Dulux Vivid White for doors/architraves/skirtings and as this is the base colour for bleaches it will suit. Still sticking with white gloss subway tiles for splashback and Strata Grey Sheen for the cupboards. The benchtop will be Quantum Quartz Turino. Thanks for your help! Tippy Toes, you won't regret your choice. Our walls are Bleaches half and the archs, skirts and doors are Bleaches quarter semi gloss, very happy with result. It was really hard as there are so many lovely greys out there. I have so many paint pots collected trying to decide I had to store them all in a book storage box, I'm sure they will come in handy for something! Can post a pic if needed?? I'm using bleaches half for my new house. Was going to do silkwort for bedrooms but decided too dark for all walls as windows will be tinted too. So I'm doing bleaches full for bedrooms & theatre Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7158 I recently went through a similar renovation and move scenario when updating our family home.
