Hi there, we have an extendable kitchen table we bought on ebay for $100. It's a great buy, sturdy. No idea of the wood used, but we wanted to go with the retro feel. It's almost the same shape as this table below, and we want to change the wood on the top to be a white lacquer.

I've investigated paint by brush or spray, and even a white lacquer film that they use for kitchen cupboards and cars. But may not be as strong. http://autovinylsolutions.com/Gloss_White_Vinyl_Wrap
Any ideas? It has to be smooth and hard wearing.
Thanks!
