Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Oct 15, 2012 2:23 pm I've made comment a few times that the colour selection people had me seriously frustrated while trying to go about planning my build. The crux of the problem is they're used to these conservative, "will suit anyone/resale value" or similar type colours (pretend you're dealing with Peter Pan here) - so you end up with earth tones, beiges, and stuff that I would consider just plain depressing. My other concern was what they charge for painting - and I'm not to know whether it's reasonable or ridiculous, being $250 for each room that's a different colour, or $130 for a feature wall. Almost by default walls will be Beige royal half. I expect that almost the minute we move in, the house will be covered in more drop-sheets than Patrick Bateman's house, and it'll be down to Bunnings and out with the paint rollers and buckets. Fortunately Beige isn't too terrible as an undercoat. Are we better off to do it this way - wait til we move in, see what the colours look like, and DIY? Or should we be getting the builders to point walls at those costs before handover? Building a Delta 21 at Craigieburn - http://homeofzero.blogspot.com.au/ Deposit: 26/02. Contract: 22/05. We are choosing to paint ourselves post handover as i like to use certain brand paint/colours. Plus i dont trust they will seal the walls before putting colour on either. We painted our entire house post handover last year. Whilst it was alot of work it saved us thousands and we could use as many colours/shades as we liked Re: Internal paint - builder vs post-handover? 4Oct 15, 2012 3:24 pm Our builder was $220 per feature wall sick we gave decided to do those ourself 2 Re: Internal paint - builder vs post-handover? 5Oct 15, 2012 5:39 pm Hi akashra Painting is something that is very important to the finish of your home, good paintwork will lift your home. Unfortunately builder's two coat system is really just good enough as undercoat. If you have the skills and or you are in position to do it yourself then you are better off. If you take time with preparation and invest in premium paint you should get a very good and pleasing outcome and the satisfaction that comes with a good job. Paying the builder extra to do it is an option but you might not like it. Your call. Get your house painted with one main colour and do the feature walls when you move in. Depending on how many feature walls you want, you could save a fair bit. Your builder is charging a reasonable price for feature walls, so this is up to you whether you want him to do it or you do it. AND if you want something from the norm colour wise.......check out my website, I'm more than happy to step out of the norm as often as i can!
