Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Oct 13, 2012 11:40 pm Ok so I want to get people thoughts on feature walls. Firstly we are still far away from that point. Only finished framing stage. But as with any build that's all you think about specially the stuff you have to do at handover. Lol. So back to topic, are feature walls still in these days... paint, wall paper, any other alternatives?? And is the trend now for more similar tones of feature. Like a darker shade or rest of wall paint?? I know its a stupid question, but we are pretty clueless about interior design, regardless of how many magazines we look at or how many display homes we go through. So any advice would be appreciated. Our house is quite open from front to back, so felt like one massive space, it needed colour to define each area. I love wall paper, but just couldn't find exactly what I was after, I'm still on the lookout though, and may wallpaper over some existing feature walls. Here's some of ours... http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/ac165/aaron4erin/DSC_0181.jpg http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/ac165/aaron4erin/556135_10150870247317316_785127315_11990050_514198902_n.jpg http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/ac165/aaron4erin/DSC_0561upload.jpg http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/ac165/aaron4erin/featurewallhallwayDSC_1225.jpg http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/ac165/aaron4erin/featurewallentryDSC_1594.jpg Re: Feature walls. 4Oct 14, 2012 10:50 am I thought feature walls are now out and people are trending toward art pieces and the like again. But that doesn;t mean you don;t do what you want, it is your home. Re: Feature walls. 5Oct 14, 2012 3:23 pm travelbug Love your colours. What is that colour in the second bedroom? Dulux "Capsicum Red" Re: Feature walls. 6Oct 14, 2012 3:36 pm I've noticed a lot more that people are doing more than one wall, which I think looks great, so we are doing it also. I love the look of wallpaper, but since we aren't planning on being in this house for more than a few years, we decided not to go with it (plus we were quoted $1500 for two walls). Also a bit more of a mission to update wallpaper compared to just painting a wall or changing artwork. We have a lot of large canvases in different colours so we are sticking to a dark grey (Resene Double Stack) for some rooms in our house. The rest of the walls are pure, bright white. 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Feature walls. 7Oct 15, 2012 11:03 am Erin I absloutely love your house.. Who is someone to tell you what you like or dislike. Do with your home what you like. I am still, to this day, frustrated to hell with the decos who were no help whatsoever with colours for my yet-to-be-built house - they were only interested in helping specify neutral, safe tones, when I've always lived in a very bright coloured house, and can't see it any other way. When the house is done we're just getting them to do it one colour - we'll go over it straight after moving in with something more creative. The colours above are a good example of that. Having said that, I also already have a lot of artwork to go around - by that I mean animation cels (mostly Animaniacs) Building a Delta 21 at Craigieburn - http://homeofzero.blogspot.com.au/ Deposit: 26/02. Me too Re: Feature walls. 12Nov 05, 2012 2:57 pm I think feature walls are less popular than they used to be, but that doesn't mean they can't look great - it's personal preference. A lot of people now use wallpaper, or a shade or two darker than the existing walls. Personally, I love to use colours or bolder neutrals on all four walls - be brave! Large canvases are a great way to add bright splashes of colour as well, like the others said. Always thought of it as a bit of a "grandma" thing, but definitely changed my tune. In looking around for ideas for my current property I stumbled across an Australian website. Going to try out one feature wall, and noticed they also have some cool canvas prints for the areas I am not yet confident in tackling yet Re: Feature walls. 14Nov 20, 2012 11:28 pm I quite like textured wallpapers like fine bamboo or cloth weave that you often see used as the covering for niches. You often see this style in display homes. Is it possible to get wide rolls of this type of material? That said, I would have terrible trouble cutting a piece to perfectly fit a niche. There is the traditional paste wallpaper and then there is more of a commercial grade wallpaper that is used in corporate offices and the like which has a sticky back already to the film. I think that traditional wallpaper is alot narrower, but the sticky back stuff is over 1200mm wide. The sticky stuff is harder to install (from what I have been told) so I guess it depends whether you are installing yourself or not. If you are having a professional install the seams should be quite invisible if they do a good job. Depends how complex the pattern is I guess. hmmm id assume youll get hit with the "natural product therefore variation in colour etc" excuse. How bad are we talking?
