Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Aug 20, 2012 3:30 pm I have a 1930s Art Deco semi-detached home which I am planning to have painted professionally. The house is a mix of brick and render and I want to completely change the current colour scheme while keeping the original brick work. See my profile pic to get a sense of the colour scheme/type of house. The current colour scheme is as follows: Render: Desert Sand (mustard/beige) Windows: Architraves and frames in Charcoal Eaves/Rafters & Fascia: Charcoal The gutters are colourbond charcoal and the roof has been re-tiled about 10 years ago so its also dark grey/charcoal although fortunately starting to fade. I have refurbished the interior to use a palette or natural colours, grey, beige and white and would like to have a similar colour palette for the exterior. I had a colour consultant assist me and they suggested the following: Render: Crust P12.B5 Windows: Window architraves in Ploughed Earth with window frames in Natural White Eaves/Rafters & Fascia: Ploughed Earth Front Door: Domino I painted a test patch on the render using Dulux Crust and thought the colour was good although perhaps a shade too dark. I have heard that Dulux Dreyfus or Mud Puddle could be a better option. The ploughed earth looked too brown on the window frames as the contrast colour to Crust and I am not convinced that they work well together. For the windows I was thinking two colours, the architraves in a darker shade of grey and the window frames in natural white or perhaps Pearl Ash?? Something that will work well with the grey render. Finally, I was told that generally eaves are painted in a lighter colour than the render and roof. Is that true, and if so shoud I paint the eaves in the same colour as the window architraves or go for something lighter again? Clearly I need some help - thank you in advance. Rebecca Re: Exterior Paint: what colours to choose? 2Aug 20, 2012 3:48 pm Just regarding the eaves, most homes tend to have white. The reason behind this (so the colour consultant said) is so it gives the feel of extending the inside ceilings out and most homes have white ceilings. What colour are your ceilings inside? Re: Exterior Paint: what colours to choose? 3Aug 20, 2012 5:57 pm Good point we have white ceilings inside our house. In my case, its to reflect as much light down as possible. Nothing to do with the internals. I'll try and have a look at this post later.
