Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Mar 15, 2008 8:59 pm I am going shopping tomorrow for a bedroom suite (bed, 2 besides and a tallboy or dresser) and not sure about what colour to get.
My bedroom has a feature wall painted with the Solver colour "Caribou 3658". It looks a tad lighter than the second one (#2E2825) on the top row of the following page: http://www.colorhunter.com/color/2E2825 The rest of the walls are painted in Solver Whitetone 3651. It looks a bit like Dulux's Natural White. I have laminate floor boards that looks like this: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Now, should I get something that matches the colour of the floor or the colour of the feature wall? Or should i get something in between the colour of the feature wall and the colour of the floor, like this: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Or should I get something that's darker than the feature wall, like this: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Help me choose the colour for my bedroom suite 2Mar 15, 2008 9:15 pm 1st picture looks better but that's matching the floor mostly. If your walls are white and your furniture very dark it might be too contrasty as per the 2nd pic....although your feature wall colour will come into play. Re: Help me choose the colour for my bedroom suite 3Mar 15, 2008 9:31 pm In my current house I have a dark chocolate bedroom suite and a dark grey/purple feature wall..I think it looks good.
As long as your wall isn't too dark the darker bedroom suite would be my choise Also you can lighten the room up with a gorgeous white quilt set Re: Help me choose the colour for my bedroom suite 6Mar 16, 2008 12:01 pm I’m a bit a late……sorry!!!!!
I prefer the fist colour. Reasons – 1) It will contrast with, flooring, walls and feature wall. 2) Its timeless, and won’t date. No you're not. I did go out shopping today, but couldn't make up my mind. So, I ended up buying just the mattress. I think I've narrowed it down to the following: These are available from a store in Adelaide called "Casual Living" and are available in Walnut, Oak (which is the lightest of the three and closest to my floor colour of maple) and Mahogany: "Melissa" Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ "Mikado" Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ "Miranda" Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ From FortyWinks, I also like this one: "Deviancy" Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This one is available in the colour shown (Beech I think) and also in Chocolate. Re: Help me choose the colour for my bedroom suite 8Mar 16, 2008 3:45 pm I prefer the first one, I think the subtle contrast looks good whereas the darker one is too different, I think mid-colour timber goes with anything.
As for lightening the black furniture by getting a white quilt, is a white quilt really practical, I wouldn't be keen on that for cleaning reasons. Re: Help me choose the colour for my bedroom suite 9Mar 16, 2008 3:52 pm Solo,
I'm not sure if you have had a bed like this before (one with no foot) but you must make sure your doona is long enough to tuck in. Also if you plan on tucking it in on the side as the first photos do, it will have to be a light doona. the last photo shows only the end tucked in - this looks good also. Looks th easiest to do My sons bed needs tucking like that and is a nightmare with a normal doona on it. At one stage I just had the doona cover on so it sat right and pulled the doona out everynight..too much hard work. Paula Re: Help me choose the colour for my bedroom suite 10Mar 16, 2008 4:32 pm Love the "Deviancy" from forty winks.
Sorry not keen on any of the others. I don’t think they have style like the "Deviancy". I have a white doona cover, I just washed it today, easy, in the washing machine, just like a sheet. It's the first wash it’s had for months! Really didn’t need to be washed, but I thought it was a good day to do it, and I felt like it. This is my second white doona cover…….the last one I had for years!!!!! This one looks like its going to last that long as well! I can at least mop or sweep the floor under the Deviancy. With the others, I don't think this will be possible. Also, being a guy who prefers to spend a minimum amount of time making my bed, I think only having to tuck in the doona at the end of the bed is a better option for me. Tucking in the doona all around is just too much work.
The Beech colour as shown in the picture might also work for me. It's a bit darker than my floor and will provide a good contrast to my feature wall. It's the first wash it’s had for months! Obviously you don't have grotty family members like mine who do things like lie on top of made bed (actually I do this when I'm reading ), plonk their grotty things (school bags, used football shirts etc) on top of the bed, also where we live it is dusty and red dust marks everything. So, maybe a white quilt is not a problem for you either, Solo, just wouldn't work for me. But I'm guessing if you are a "being a guy who prefers to spend a minimum amount of time making my bed," and guessing by your user name that you are on your own, you probably prefer to spend a minimum amount of time washing too!!! Anyway quilt colours are a bit off the topic Re: Help me choose the colour for my bedroom suite 14Mar 17, 2008 7:19 am Great choice, when seeing the colors together it looks good.

Good to see a bloke putting some effort in his furnishings Paula Re: Help me choose the colour for my bedroom suite 15Mar 17, 2008 9:12 am Solo……I think the way the Deviancy is made looks good for you also!!!
There you go…..I got my genders wrong with you, you never can tell in here! Get yourself a stripy number like the one on the bed in the photo….that’s a good BLOKE look.
