Okay so my question is how to mix different wood looks together without it looking terrible? How to get it right? Is there any rules?
In my Kitchen/Meals/Family ...
We have rusted nougat laminate flooring going down

Now I'm getting hubby to make us an entertainment unit for the same room.
It will be built in and have a few floating shelves next to the TV.
The 3 doors will have a fine white mesh so our equipment will be hidden, but remotes will still work.
I was thinking a few options either the safe route all gloss white, or the alternative is have a white unit with a wood look top and wood look shelves. I do prefer the second option, but how can I do it? Do I have to try and match the wood colours I've already used in the room? Do I have to stay light or could I go the darker colour? We have a black couch and getting black dining chairs. If I chose the darker colour would I be best to also use it to change the kitchen overheads so it ties in?
