Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jun 13, 2012 5:20 pm Hi, I posted this below to the finishing touches board - but only got one reply so am hoping this time I might get some more opinions... I keep swaying between rendering the whole lot - not rendering at all... and still hoping there might be a way to do some render but not the whole lot to really improve look. Really keen to hear if anyone has successfully done this... Thanks! pg ~~~ We are updating our home and need to update the façade. The colour of our bricks is not terrible and I would prefer if possible not to spend the amount it will take to render the whole house (especially as they would need scaffolding for top part) but I do like the look of render so perhaps we could render some parts? For example I think we should render the brick retaining wall and perhaps the bottom section around the garage doors (which also need to be replaced or painted) - and then not sure about rest of house... maybe render all bottom - but then how do we tie in the top part? The pool has been redone since this photo was taken and have travertine tiles around it... black fence, dark blue interior... so gives you idea of colour of finishes... This is my first post and I really appreciate your thoughts - I've been looking around the forums for a while and everyone has such great ideas. The roof is a dark brown/grey concrete (needs cleaning and could also perhaps paint to freshen up). Re: To render or not to render? 2Jun 13, 2012 8:15 pm I really like you home and I did see your post. Unfortunately I'm up to my arm pits in consultations. If I can, I'll have a look at your post over the weekend for you. I have been playing around with online packages and this façade has similar colour bricks. I think it is nice and makes me think I should only paint not render and save money that I would spend on rendering instead on driveway, railings and covering or tiling over pebblecrete on steps/front patio. If I did render - I could just render around top window and to the left (where front door is)... I have tried to mock it up but is difficult. Not sure if this is risky - although render could be done with render/paint I suppose and shouldn't be costly - just not sure its needed ? Any comments? - Both of these are same except the Garage doors... One is : Jasper (garage door) & other Paper bark (have used Paper bark for a screen in backyard already) so ties in... Front door is Dulux Grapple & Roof - Boral Charcoal Gray (not sure when we get roof repainted would be same - but some sort of Dark gray is what I'm thinking)... Here is another photo of house untouched- I think the bricks are closer to the façade in the 2-story house I used to test out paint colours. To save costs you could bag it yourself instead of paying professional renderers?? If you go ahead with render or bagging that one section, I personally, would also paint the railing and upright post in the corner of the deck the same colour as the render. It has been painted to match the windows but it would be better in your darker render colour so it doesn't stand out so much. I would seriously consider doing the brick wall along your driveway as well as the small section of the house. Good luck. Re: To render or not to render? 6Jun 21, 2012 10:56 am Hi. I think it looks OK (except for the brick fence) but if you want to render I would render all the bits you can see in the photo. ie front and left side and brick fence. They shouldn't need scaffolding as the right side is not high and the left is on the verandah. We got our whole house done a few years back. Get some quotes. You might be surprised. I wouldn't bother doing just a section. Nor would I recommend bagging. It looks like a cheap mans render. And once you've done it you are stuck with it. No getting it off or rendering over it after that. When we were considering doing ours we drove around some new estates and looked at colours and finishes. We went the rockcoat in the scratch finish. Looks great. Re: To render or not to render? 8Jun 25, 2012 7:58 pm How are you going here? Made any decisions since I was in last or are you at the same stage?
