Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 24, 2012 12:12 pm Hey all,
We chose our colours for our house in March this year and should be getting build contracts very soon. We did the colour selections and ever since I have gone up and down from yes I love it to no it’s not right and everywhere in between about our external colours. I thought I was sure but it is still bugging me, it doesn’t help that our builder is taking forever to prepare the contract as I have had all this time to stew on it and so I need opinions once and for all. Enough is enough now about the external colours... please help Here is what we have at the moment Boral Mocha Bricks Boral Macquarie Twilight roof tiles (Black) Gutters: Monument Fascia: Paperbark Garage Door: Monument Front Door: Monument Windows: Merino (same as paperbark) Infill’s over windows (Side and back of house): Paperbark. We are not having any render. Dilemma is, should I have Monument for the Fascia and Infill’s over the windows or keep it as the paperbark?. I do really like a dark house and I have seen it done using mocha bricks and black roof tiles but instead of monument everything was done in Ironstone and I liked it but ironstone is too blueish for me. If I go everything in Monument though will it look too dark and silly. I am keep to keep the windows as the Merino as you can see the frames from the inside of the house and we are going with a very neutral theme inside plus I think if we go monument for everything else we should have merino windows to lighten up slightly Ok, my next question is. Our facade looks like this http://www.dennisfamily.com.au/dfh/ourh ... fo=Facades We have the classic facade (Hope these links work) however I think I have done something silly and chosen this door. http://www.humedoors.com.au/products/en ... ton_range/ XN5 The windows are vertical on the facade however the glass on the door is horizontal... eek is this going to look really really silly??? Please give me your honest opinions, just go monument for everything or stick with the paperback fascia so it isn’t too dark? Also the front door, does this need to change? Thank you thank you to anyone who is willing to give me their opinions Re: Colour Selection Opinions (once and for all) 2May 24, 2012 1:26 pm I think the style front door you've chosen is really nice and would suit your facade. I would keep the facia in Paperbark but have you considered having the garage door also in Paperbark to balance out all the windows on the other side? That way the front door in Monument would be more of a feature? Not sure about the infill, I would probably keep it as Paperbark and see how it looks first, if it's too stark against the bricks and stands out you can always paint over it. Good Luck Re: Colour Selection Opinions (once and for all) 3May 24, 2012 2:04 pm I think the door will look fine with your facade. We have Merino windows/sliding doors and we love it ... External Colour Selection (once and for all) Opinions Please 4May 25, 2012 8:36 am We originally had the garage door as paperbark but I wasnt happy with it and changed it as I felt it would lighten the facade up too much, when I picture my house I always see it having a dark facade but I worry it might be too dark if I change the fascia to Monument also but like I said I have seen Mocha bricks done with everything else in Ironstone and it looked great but Ironstone is too blue for me and monument is darker than ironstone so it could look too dark.... ??????? If I change the fascia to the monument I wonder if I should change the infills over the windows to monument to carry it down and also the infills might stand out too much against the mocha bricks if they are paperbark but then will they look silly sitting on top of the Merino window frames... erghh this is so frustrating. Re: External Colour Selection (once and for all) Opinions Pl 6May 25, 2012 11:46 am I do like a dark facade but I am completely open to any and all opinions, I don’t want to go too dark and then it looks silly. So do you think as we have it now there is too much monument and therefore too dark or if we change the fascia and the infill’s it will be too much monument and too dark? Oh you have got me thinking now d@n, if it is a matter of preference I am ok with it but I am more worried people will drive past my house and think oh that looks silly. I am one of these people that does not have an imaginative mind and so I cannot picture it at all and while I probably shouldn’t I do care too much what others think. I think we are confined to the colorbond colours only. Re: External Colour Selection (once and for all) Opinions Pl 7May 25, 2012 11:47 am Just find a picture of a facade you like or a display home and copy that ... don't stress too much!! Re: External Colour Selection (once and for all) Opinions Pl 8May 25, 2012 12:09 pm We also have Mocha bricks but have gone with charcoal grey roof tiles and Woodland Grey gutters, facia and windows. We will be having the front projection rendered and have chosen a timber garage door to lighten it up. Here are some pics to give you an idea if this is the look your wanting, although having a black roof and Monument gutters, facia and garage door will obviously look darker. You shouldn't be worried what random folk think.... unless you plan to sell the place. We all have different tastes. Doesn't mean one is better or worse than the other.
